Please tell us some more ... there are thousands of beautiful dogs waiting to be re-homed as they have been callously discarded by inconsiderate owners. Could you not find it in your heart to re-home an abandoned dog .... if you are a dog lover?

    Hi Debt_Free_Chick

Whilst I agree with you that there are thousands of beautiful dogs who need homes through no fault of their own, I must admit I am rather insulted by your inference that if a person is a dog lover they would have one of these dogs as opposed to a pedigree. I have two pedigree dogs of an unusual breed and I'm a dog lover. There are many reasons why people choose a pedigree dog bought from a breeder over an abandoned dog from a rescue kennels, but doing so does not make them less of a dog lover.

And yes, our household has had rescue dogs in the past, so I have viewed it from both sides of the fence :)

  • My Mum had a chinese crested dog called Gizmo, and he had a centre page spread in the Sun as one of Britains ugliest dogs. He was a rescue dog who was full of charm and terrible acne!
  • Try https://www.dogspages.co.uk they have info on breeders and rescues and the forum is also really helpful as there are lots of people wanting to help with doggy info.

I looked at getting a chinese crested about 2 years ago but went for a long haired chihuahua instead, i now have two!

If i remember rightly you would be looking at around £400 - £500 for a good pedigree one.

There should be a rescue sight for them as they are lap dogs elderly people tend to get them as companions, when they pass away they often go to recues so you could be in luck.

The only thing i would say is please, even if it is £150 cheaper dont buy one from a puppy farm (they often advertise as reputable breeders) if u go and they have more than 3 types of breed then leave well alone, if there is no market for them they will eventually find another way to make money.

Good Luck and happy hunting!! xxxx
  • Hi, my advice would be to contact the breed association (if there is one) the Kennel Club should be able to help you with that. The breed association may well have a rescue section with a suitable dog for you - don't be put of that there a rare breed, my dogs are considered a rare breed as well (well under a hundred registrations at the Kennel Club) and they occasionally get dogs in for rehoming. If the breed association don't have any rescue dogs in they will almost certainly be able to help with a list of breeders who have had recent litters.

Hi, sorry for the late reply!

I wont be getting one for a little while now as my cat Minnie has just died :(

Debt_free_chick - I am moving to a nice new house in a few months and wasnt planning to get any sort of dog (be it a chinese crested or any other sort) until i was settled in.
I have always loved chinese crested, but if i fell in love with another dog at a rescue home i would quite happily go for one of them.
I work full time but my partner doesnt and also works funny hours so there would be some one around for the doggy most of the time. I wouldnt get a dog if i couldnt offer a good home.

As a previous poster said the Kennel Club is your best starting point as they will have a list of breeders. Their website address is http://www.the-kennel-club.org.uk/

We have a dogshare with a friend for the sweetest 7 yr old yorkie, known her since she was a wee 4 month old puppy. It works really well and she loves the fact that she has two families -but I'm her #1 mommy :) Sadly some people aren't responsible or loving dog owners and it is heartbreaking to see abused animals hence I will adopt from a rescue when we do have the space/time for another dog.

Last weekend on our walkies, we met a couple of bull terrier puppies outside a corner shop and our dog went to say hello and one of the pups was very friendly. The owner - teenager with a nasty attitude- didn't like the pup getting over-excited, came outside and literally grabbed and flung the dog in the air 5 ft toward metal shelving. I was so shocked and angry. Poor thing came cowering under me for protection. I scoulded the idiot who proceeded to verbally abuse me and had me in tears. I wanted to follow him home so I could report him to the RSPCA. I wish the law would tighten up on these hoodlums who mistreat animals. Sorry to go offpoint, that damn ignorant s&!t just made me so angry.
