Historical Daily Equity Fund Prices?

Options
Is there anywhere which provides fund prices on a daily basis, and allows you to view same over a historical period?
I know Yahoo shows FTSE 100 performance on that basis, but I would like to be able to view my current and prospective ISA holdings in this way.
Most sites show performance over 1 month, 3 months, etc., but this is normally some 2 weeks old anyway.
I should have added that it must be free of course!
I used to use S & P a lot, but they charge for everything worthwhile nowadays.

All the ones I can think off charge. Remember that the same providers of the free information also sell to IFAs and financial services firms so they only give away so much free of charge otherwise we wouldnt pay for it. Its not cheap either. Financial Express Analytics is £5k a year. However, I think it is worth every penny. But then I am in a different position to you.

If you know the fund you're interested it's worth emailing the customer support department of the company that runs the fund and asking them for their historical prices for the dates you require. I did this for a number of funds a while ago, in some cases asking for data back as far as 5-10 years and generally all the places I asked were very happy to provide the info without any hassle.

I just asked for the data in spreadsheet format and told them the dates between which I was interested and they obliged. I also said in my emails that I was interested in the creation and cancellation prices for each fund and that data was also included for each pricing point which was good.

If you're after data on a large number of different funds then you might be better just paying for this, can't tell you of any places that do this service though, maybe advfn? Though I think they're better for stock data and don't carry exhaustive data on funds.

Another 'tip' would be to use the Bloomberg site to look up your data. Their charting application is excellent and makes it very easy to look up prices for given dates by moving your cursor (a vertical line) across the chart until you get to the date you're interested in and then just read off the price at the top of the chart.

Bloomberg is an american based site, but the charting tool there is spot on and the prices for UK based funds/stocks are in GBP so it's all good.

This is the URL for the Bloomberg symbol lookup

  • MorningStar have a a chart tool that uses Flash. If you select 'prices' you can get a daily price point graph going back 10 years - you can hover over individual prices or zoom in for a closer look, up to day-by-day. They do the same for dividends too. Incidentally, the transfer between the Flash and their website is XML of raw prices indexed by day (1=1st Jan 1998 or whatever), which you can see if you packet sniff the browser connection.
