Want to move hot water tank

Hi all - can anyone give me advice on moving my hot water tank from my bathroom so that I can put in a shower? and can you tell me if I can put it upstairs or move it to the other end of the house? Or, is there any way I can get round having a hot water tank - they take up so much room?

Thanks in advance
Warm regards

by installing a new combi boiler you can get rid of the old hot water tank and the cold water tank.

you can move the hot tank upstairs if you wish. the higher the better for a plumbed in shower. or were you thinking of an electric shower?
    Get some gorm.

Hi Ormus - thanks - yes I'm thinking an electric shower. I live in a bugalow so if I put the hot water tank upstairs it would be in the roofspace and I wasn't sure if that would be possible as the main water tank is up there. Would you happen to know?

I might be better with a combi but I've a horrible feeling that would be a really expensive option and I can't afford big bucks unfortunately.
    Thanks again!

yes thats ok as long as there is enough room for the CWS tank to be higher than the hot water cylinder.
usually a staging is built for the CWS to sit on. make sure its well built & strong. a full tank weighs a fair bit.

Hi Ormus - thanks appreciate the advice. Think I'll get a builder/plumber out now and see what they say. Fingers crossed not too expensive.
    Thanks again.

If moving it up to the loft & doing away with it & having a combi were both do-able pricewise, I would opt for the combi, as you heat what you need when you need it. So its faster (no waiting) & more economical (only heat what you use).

Why is it faster?(if you already have stored hot water.)
Why is it cheaper?( when you have your heating on 6 mths of the year and get hot water as a by product).
A thankyou is payment enough .

Its faster because you don't have to wait for it to heat a tank, you can come in & turn the tap & it heats as you draw it.
Its cheaper because you only heat what you need & in the summer the boiler only needsw to come on for a few minutes at a time as you draw hot water.

hi, we don't have gas so we can't change to a combi boiler. can we move the hot water tank to the attic to allow us to extend the bathroom?
