Insurance Claim

I am in middle of big insurance claim ( our house was completely destroyed by fire) I wanted to do claim for our clothing so prepared and submitted claim to insurance company, the loss adjusters have replied saying they need to know where and when every article of clothing was purchased. Is this a reasonable request? we are a family of six and I think it would be almost impossible to provide this info accurately. Has anyone any experience in dealing with this , i have never made a claim before so bit of a novice.

You need to do it to the best of your ability.
Like most things you need to substantiate your claim.
Its likely they will want to deduct for wear and tear hence wanting the date0 -

If everything has been destroyed by fire, how is he going to do this?

With childrens closthes it is pretty easy since they grow so most items will be 12-18 months old at the most. Outline to them where you shop and make sure this ties in with what they are seeing with the rest of the claim.
For instance, if you live in a 2 bed council house but shop at Gucci, GAP and Selfridges for your clothes, it is going to raise a lot of eyebrows very quickly and possibly jeopordise the rest of the claim. If one part is found to be fraudulent, the rest will be kicked out as well.
I would work on the basis of say
10 t-shirts @ £10 each = £100
3 jumpers @ £20 each £60
5 pairs of trousers £20 each £100
10 pairs of pants @ £2 each £20
10 pairs of socks @ £1.50 each £15
As a starter, per person. This would give a figure of £295. Add in school uniforms, shoes, etc.
For adults, similar kind of thing but differing values again, according to your lifestyle. If they query anything, you should be able to point to where the clothing was stored in terms of rail space / drawer space and they can check your figures are reasonable from that.
Although fire damage can be severe, there is usually sufficient remains to tell what a furniture item was before the fire.0 -
