magnet kitchens

Any advice on Magnet. Doing our kitchen and have had 4 quotes now, waiting for 5th (its a big space wnat to get it right) anyway have been very surprised by Magnet they are the only ones to do something different with the space rather than just rehash what is there already. I like the idea of going with a smaller comapny, esp if no diff in price and I am always a bit wary of big companies like magnet.

I know lots of people of MSE will have experiences of magnet - good and bad so looking for advice really

Thanks in advance

  • We had a magnet kitchen fitted last year and were pleased with the service. It was a small part of a massive house remodel so I was quite stressed and neurotic, and they coped with me very well!
The price was good, but we mentioned the fact that my brother had a magnet trade card and got 65% off aswell as half price fitting and half price granite.
Overall it was a good experience and I would recommend them. I'm sure it all depends on each shop, and I dealt with the York shop.
    Good luck.

    Hi

We have a magnet kitchen - had it for 6 years. It's great looks as good as it did when we got it. Magnet didn't fit it though got a joiner to do that. We also had a magnet kitchen in our previous house too - it was brilliant too. That was also fitted by a none magnet joiner....

If I was buying a kitchen tomorrow I (obviously :D) would go back and look at Magnet the quality is good...;)

Had a look around their Milton Keynes branch last week - before ordering ours from IKEA - & the showroom was OK, stuff looked reasonable & staff helpful & not pushy, but they forgot to ask if we;d like a salesman/planner to visit us!!

Best of all, though, they had a white gloss layout, virtually as we've planned ours, to look, on the IKEA planner!!

So either we've got it dead right, or they're no good at their job!!

Don't have any experience, but I'm told that Magnet kitchens arrive ready assembled, as opposed to the flat-pack jobbies that the others do, and that they are a bit more expensive, but very good. All hearsay of course, but having looked at the others, we are about to investigate the Magnet option as well.
  • How much more expensive is a Magnet kitchen, than, say, one from Wickes or Hygena/MFI??

Bought a magnet kitchen years ago and no real problems with the kitchen itself but the guys they supplied to fit it were cowboys.
Did an appalling job, slapdash at every turn and we are now reaping the "benefits"

If you can get a trusted company or person do fit it then go for it
  • My friend had hers fitted by Magnet and was delighted. They were quick clean but not cheap.
  • we went into the local Magnet trade kitchen shop this morning -- they were very helpful. Left with the brochure of trade prices, and they were good at giving us a general ballpark price for the white gloss kitchen we liked. For a more detailed one, we need to come back with our plan. Our builder would be very happy if we order through them, as they come ready assembled -- ie less work for him! Quality-wise, didn't seem very different from Wickes or MFI, except for the fact that they are ready-assembled, so I would've thought they have to be sturdier ...

Magnet have just upgraded their carcasses to 18mm - they used to be 15mm - and introduced different colours, to match some of the doors. The retail carcasses are different to the trade ones, though, I think the latter are still all one colour. They've also made a big effort to improve their service and compete with the high street showrooms rather than the other big multiple stores.

If you have a good fitter, then I don't think it matters whether your carcasses are flat pack or rigid. Some fitters prefer flat packs, because it makes it easier to alter them, when necessary. And in any case, Magnet, MFI and B&Q all do both rigid and flat pack kitchens. Their more expensive ranges are the rigid ones.
I write blogs about kitchens ... and I design kitchens for a living ... I just love kitchens!

We had a kitchen fitted by Magnet about 6 months ago. Disappointed with the quality, the fitting and the service. I thought I was paying for top service but next time I would get a local joiner

The fitting of the custom worktop was particularly bad. Scratched all the paint off my walls and they didn't fix that - as they don't do decorating.
