Replacement key for locking wheel nuts
Comments
-
Halfords stock a tool to remove them, I've not used one but I spotted it amongst the tools there last week0
-
Have you got the case they came in if they are afermarket ones? There should be a code/reference number for a replacement.
If they are manufacturer fit you may have something in the manual/service history for what key number you need.I beep for Robins - Beep Beep
& Choo Choo for trains!!0 -
Tyre fitting centres will be able to remove them for you if you have no luck with
the removal tools sold. You could ask your dealer about replacement costs.
But if I were you I would take them off and throw them away and replace them with ordinary studs - about £2.50ea They are more hassle than they are worth IMO. How many cars do you see with no wheels sitting on 4 stacks of bricks these days?0 -

I think that's largely due to cars now coming as standard with the locking nuts. I think it's a good idea to have the locking nuts as it helps protect a relatively expensive part of the car being removed easily.0 -
Not sure if they are after market or original Peugeot ones but the alloys are standard Peugeot ones that have always been on the car so I'll check my manual and maybe head down to my local dealer tomorrow as a first point of contact!
Cheers for all the replies!0 -

It's not a good idea when you lose the key, it's not a good idea when the key has chewed up the locking nut so that the key no longer fits <<< This happened to someone I know and we couldn't get the B!!!er off partly due to the severe chewing and partly due the tyre fitters having over tightened all the studs, we could get the hexagon studs off but not the security ones.
I asked the friend who had had the vehicle since 1998,
"Exactly how likely is it that someone will pinch your wheels? Most of the time the car is sitting on your driveway, and when you go out in the daytime to a supermarket or to a tourist attraction, whatever, how likely is it someone will pinch your wheels? And you can see that they have been chewed so what happens if one day you have a puncture and like today - you can't undo the lock nuts even with the key."
After that they took my advice and got 4 studs - actually the tyre fitters gave him 4 free of charge as an apology after they eventually managed to remove the stuck studs and then torqued up the studs properly like they should have done the first time around. He still has the 4 wheels on his car 2 years later.0 -
