Best 0% Balance Transfer Card with a decent Limit

OK folks, my Virgin Money Credit Card is coming to the end of its 0% period soon (early April). In true Credit Card tart fashion, I am now looking for a new 0% card (I currently old Egg and Egg Money cards - with no balance) - so these are not available to me.

The balance on the Virgin Card is reasonably high - £7.5k. I had been intending to apply for a Barclaycard - long 0% period, and I have not had one before.

However, my flatmate recently was given one of these - and was given a miserly £500 credit limit - considering he earns £32k per year, and has a clean credit history - the limit is a bit on the low side.

Obviously I do not regard it as my right to expect a high limit (I earn £30k per year and have a good clean credit history). However, I don't want to spend 4 weeks applying for a card, only to get a low limit.

Fortunately, I do have the £7.5k in savings, so I can always pay the limit off - but if I can find a suitable 0% card, I can continue as I have for the last couple of year.

Any suggestions/success stories?
Cheers

  • This won't be helpful but my OH also recently got a Barclaycard and was only offered £750.
Interestingly the can review a credit limit....but only after a few months i.e. when it is too late to take advantage of a 0% BT. He has a good job, uses credit cards a lot and only (but always) paying the minumum. In other words a CC company's dream customer, but they can make more money out of him by taking the small BT and upping his credit limit later when the 0% window has closed.

I told him to cancel it within the 14 days and try somewhere else.

Anyone else had a similar experience?

Max Bt at 0% is £5K. Anything more will be given at 6.9% APR, fee-free, and paid off last!

Barclaycard are also now declining more than 50% of applicants, and closing 1m dormant accounts. They must be feeling the pinch!

Capital One? 6/7 months fee-free, or 10 months with a 1.7% fee, if you meet their 'excellent credit rating' criteria.

LTSB gave me my highest credit limit, so might be an option?

Other than those, you already have the top limit cards...MBNA & Egg. Speaking of Egg...will they do you a 'deal' on an otherwise unused Egg Card?

Cheers folks - guess Barclaycard is definitely off the menu. I'll give a call and see what they will do. Otherwise i will look at LTSB.
