Tips For A Second Hand Car To Avoid Being Ripped Off?

Hi guys,

As the title suggests I'm hoping to buy a second hand car in the next few weeks. I'd like to buy from a garage given the choice, but am nervous about buying a car at all as it's not something I'm used to.

I'm specifically looking for a VW Gold TDI (130bhp).

If I go to a garage and try it out and like it, should I still have it HPI checked? If not are there any other checks I should get done on it?

Also, what should I be wary of when viewing second hand cars?

Thanks!

    Hello bobbarley

I'll move your thread to the 'Motoring & Public Transport' board.

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. Have a look at a few cars and narrow it down to 1 or 2

then get an RAC/AA inspection done on your first choice if they ok it then ask the dealer if they have an up to date HPI certificate if not get one done before you pay a deposit or any money

Take somebody that knows about cars with you to view, prior to buying.

Those VW Golds are expensive, I hear. :D
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.
