Depending on the light into and the shape of the room - cream/orange or red/pink (I have this!!!)

Wallpaper. You can get some amazing patterns in equally amazing colours so go for one large wall covered in paper if you are not brave enough for the whole room and paint the rest to compliment it.

If you decide on the cream, I wouldn't go too light, we had brown leather in one room and when the walls were too light the contrast made the room look very cold. I love the duck egg (one wall?) and there are some lovely greens around at the moment.
I also agree with Charlotte, there are some fab wallpapers around at the moment if you just did one wall.
  • It depends which way the room is facing. I like the idea of duck egg blue with brown, but if the room is North Facing it will look a bit dull, especially in the winter months so I'd opt for cream/ivory instead. If it is South or West facing, then chose whatever you like best.

I have a dark chocolate brown leather sofa and my walls are painted with contract magnolia (as are all walls in my rented flat). I add colour by using coloured accessories cushions etc - magnolia walls do look extremely posh against laminate floors and dark furniture.

Pale golds can look warmer than cream and the duck egg blue is quite fashionable at the moment so would be easy to find accessories to match

The Farrow and Ball "Dorset Cream" looks warm.

Also have a look on "moneysaving old style" the "Shabby chic" thread people are posting photos of their rooms and you might get some inspiration.

That Taupe colour looks fine Treacle - not too light and not too dark and quite a warm colour too.

As long as you take your time when 'cutting into' the cream walls with the taupe feature wall colour you'll be fine - just don't rush!

    Good luck! :)
  • we have choc brown sofa and wooden floors and a pale green on the walls. I love it! :)
