Where is the best place to sell my shares...

Options
Hi all -

I'm looking to sell some shares we have acquired via my wives Share Save Scheme at work.

I've had a dig around for an article to read on MSE - without great success - of where the best place is to sell them online... google seems a minefield... I see loads of companies offering share trading, but it seems like you have to have bought the shares with them...??

anyone point me in the right direction ...

cheers -

I have used both https://www.hoodlessbrennan.com and https://www.iwebsharedealing.co.uk for online sharedealing and found them to be very efficient and straightforward. They charge a flat rate of £7 and £10 respectively for deals of any size in UK shares.

For the comdirect (now called squaregain) offer see this thread.I used this not so long ago to sell some shares as with the £50 cash back plus £22.50 from plumb 1 it was the best deal if you only want to sell a few share holdings.

Defnitly Plumb1 is ok to deal with, no problem when he set mine up either.
Do know far as Square Gain is concerned you are talking of minimum share transfer in or trade of 500 quid to qualify for the 50 quids.

Can we sell Abbey shares easily or are they foreign shares now? I think we've missed the date for the free selling that Santander gave for 6 months.

    Any advice please.

this is from Squaregain's watchlist and indicates they are tradeable presuming this is what yr shares are now called..

I did an at limit try on them for you and it would have been possible to buy/sell if I had wanted to.

p.s. don't usually bother with refs but if you want to kick off a Squaregain account and want a ref pm me but won't get into the fight that goes on on the refs board - it would be just 50 for u and 50 for me.

Our Abbey shares are the ones free with privatisation.

I think they are tradeable normally until 25th but you had to get the pack from Santander to do them free and I've missed that date.

I'll think about what you said FangKat. I don't really understand this share selling/trading business and squaregain. You'll have to advise me.

    Thanks.... Maisie

Squaregain and others like Hoodless are online share dealing companies and thus much cheaper to share deal than the "old" way via banks etc. Sgain charges a flat 12.50 stg commission for dealing for instance.

You can open an account with Sgain and then get them to transfer in your shares. I have not done this but if you go to their website http://www.squaregain.co.uk/ it explains it - beleive they still contribute towards the cost of share transfer if applicable.

You then have an account with the shares showing on it and you can then if you wish sell them either on line or by phoning their delaing desk

Far as the referral - you have to either transfer in shares exceeding a value of 500 pounds or make a share trade of 500 pounds - you (and if you so wish I) wud get 50 pounds each credited. (note as others incl. me have mentioned Plumb1 will give you a better referall cos he will give you 25 quid of HIS 50 back (I still think).
