Ebay auction - pick up from house?

Hi guys - Im selling a textbook and just had someone send me this question:

if I bid it, and won, can I pick it up? I am in London as well... and I could pay cash...

how should I answer this question? I didnt mention picking up from location in my auction

Totally up to you. If you don't feel comfortable for any reason then reply by saying sorry but you don't offer collection in person and would rather stick to the auction terms of using royal mail (or whoever) Be aware though that it might cost you a sale. But if you aren't comfortable then don't do it.

If you do allow them to collect then make sure it is cash on collection only as the buyer has offered. Never ever allow paypal on a collected item.

Have you had a look at their feedback? When I get asked this question I always paste their Ebay ID into the 'find a member' on the community page to check their location and feedback - this will help you work out what kind of person you're dealing with.

I've had people pick up from my house before with no problems. But if you are unsure maybe sugest meeting somewhere local, like a park, at a certain time

Don't know why but that has tickled me. Just laughing at the thought of meeting in a park to do the exchange.
No offence Wesker, I know what you mean.

  • Last year I won an auction for a childs scooter and it was a local collection. I ended up meeting the guy in a McDonalds car park in the next town as he was on his way home from work and I was on my way out with the kids. We did have a chuckle about what people would think!

Sounds like something that would happen in a movie. You fall in love in the end and live happily ever after ;)

I sold a Nintendo Wii on Ebay. The guy paid through paypal and as he lived locally asked if he could pick up. He collected on Sunday then reversed payment on Monday!
That was July 2007 and I'm still fighting Paypal for money as they insist I pay (I arranged to withdraw funds on the Sunday as Wii was hubby's).
I ended up been chased by debt collectors on 'phone everyday.
My advice would be never ever offer collect in person without checking feedback and accepting a cash payment!
I was ripped off and wouldn't want to see it hapen to any one else.
