Credit Card CCV

Hi there,
Just joined today so hi everyone,
Just a quick question, I made a purchase on my credit card online and just realised after looking at my ccv number that I actually entered it incorrectly and the transactions still all went through!! Whats the point in a ccv number? And what should I do? Anyone else come across this?
Thanks

It provides extra security for the credit card transaction, in that it is supposed to prove that the card is in your possession when you make the purchase.

A merchant doesn't have to ask you for it, and indeed the bank doesn't have to check it even if the merchant provides it. But if the transaction goes pear-shaped then it is used in the argument between the merchant and the bank.

i.e. if the merchant doesn't provide it then they normally lose out, but if the merchant provided it and the bank didn't bother to check it for some reason then the bank loses out.

Nothing for you to worry about if the transaction was authorised at the time.
