PC Problem leaving me confused..?

I'm hoping for a bit of advice regarding my PC...

For about a week now, whenever I boot up/restart my PC, I'm initially getting a black screen that says 'Disk Error, Press any key to restart'.

I press any key, and it boots up as normal, and it's working fine, maybe running a little slower than usual...! Can anybody tell me why this error message is coming up, and what, if anything, I could try to fix it?

The hard drive is quite new, only about 8/9 months old, running Windows XP.

Thanks for reading x

I would persue the Hard Disk idea, other than that it could possibly be a cable causing the problem.
Please support my thanks button if I have been of any help

  • Backup your data asap. If I had to guess I'd say the disk is failing, but it could be something less serious.

  • Ooh, thanks guys. I will back up asap then, have to say, if it is the hard drive failing, I'm mightily unimpressed, it's not that old :-(

    Thank you x

hard disks quote MTBF mean time between failure.
So there are disks that last for years and years, and disks that last a couple of months.
They average it all out, extraplolate and guess some more then stick a meaningless number with MTBF in front.

The number might just be a bit bigger than the competitors.
