its either dry rot (as posted)

or its how its been constructed

as previous poster said - down to

    bad joisting,
very small noggins (or none at all)
and to make things worse the chipboard floor edges are possibly not meeting on a joist

thats if its a suspended timber floor

could also be too few nails in the floor boards - VERY simple to fix
  • My wife reminded me that we had a bouncy floor comment in one of our previous surveys as well. It turned out that lounge had a sprung floor because some previous owners had been mad keen on Scottish dancing and often had their friends round for a 'fling'.

What sort of "fling ?" - nudge nudge wink wink say no more say no more !!!
  • Just the dancing I think....... We didn't find any evidence of other activities!

Probably just danced to keep warm to be honest. I've never lived anywhere so cold.

Other evidence would be if you had pampas grass in your garden. Apparently all swingers have pampas grass in their garden!!
  • The garden was mostly tundra....may have been some reindeer grass.

Our first house was a Barratt, built in 1981.

Last time I went past it it looked like a bouncy floor was the least of it's problems........I'd be amazed if it was still there in 20 years time.
If I remember correctly there was a craze for Barrat House jokes in the 80s.
    Been away for a while.
  • At the time we thought it was great. Only cost £19500 as well.

I remember having sleepless nights about our £17000 mortgage............
  • Is it a possibility that the surveyor was wearing these:

It's not paranoia if they really are after you.
