in Credit cards
Hello,
This is my first post here so hello! and I apologise if this has been brought up before.
I was wondering if it's now commonplace for credit card companies not to bother letting you know that your application has been successful? Or is it that the process is really slow these days? I applied for a citibank card and a barclaycard recently and still not heard a thing, it's been between 10 days and 2 weeks. I went to my bank (Alliance & Leicester) and applied for a credit card and I've not heard from them either. although it's only been a couple of days. I know applying for all these cards is not doing my credit score any good but I'm getting a bit fed up and a bit impatient.
I wanted to change my current account last month to Nationwide, I went in and made an application and didn't hear a thing in nearly 10 days. I went into the branch and asked what the score was and they said that the person who dealt with my application wasn't in, so they didn't know how my application was progressing!! Crazy! As if only one person in a whole organisation can check an application?
I ended calling up customer services, when I told them that I'd waited two weeks they seem to be quite shocked and quite apologetic. Anyway I am digressing and sorry for rambling!
Has anyone has these problems applying for a financial product and the company not bothering to get back in touch?
I'm desperate to transfer my virgin card balance now that they've whacked the APR up to 21%

They should really let you know.
Making applications so close together isn't really helpful. I've been in a similar position with a 20% debt on a LTSB card, so in a panic I made 3 applications within the space of a week. I was accepted on the first, and rejected on the following 2. I'm now going to leave a 3 month gap until applying for another card.
Alliance & Leicester issue their credit cards using MBNA as the provider.
Probably best if you chase up where your current applications are up to now.
Some of the applications you have just made, even if they are initially rejected you may be able to appeal showing them information that you may not have used on your initial application.
Hope this helps0 -
Somethinng you may need to bear in mind, is that your Virgin card is also an MBNA card, which means you can't transfer that balance to another MBNA card, so try and pursue a non MBNA card for that balance.0

Have you phoned them because you should have had some kind of letter.
I hope you hear soon0 -

Thanks a lot for the advice, I had no idea A&L were MBNA. That explains why once I tried to transfer some balance from the Virgin card to a halifax card it wouldn't allow it. Assuming Halifax are MBNA?0 -
funnily enough I phoned up halifax earlier this evening about their credit cards ... they seem to stand alone, although appear to have some alliance with the Bank of Scotland, but not MBNA0

Halifax and Bank of Scotland are the same company - HBOS (Halifax Bank Of Scotland)0

I wouldn't worry, I applied for a Citi card on Jan 25th then on Monday 11th Feb, they called me to confirm some security questions at work, yes I gave my works number, she said thank you, they would look at my application and I would hear within 5 days (Working I pursume) well its Thursday now and I still have not heard, so ill hold my breath at the 5 days thing seen as though how i appiled on the 25th Jan and its taken all this time just to look at my application0

I know this sounds sad but if you have a poor credit record your applications tend tojust end up in the bin. Especially in a branch. The sellers have no time to call up customers to tell them their app has been declined.
If you apply for too much credit at a very short time you will ruin your credit record and could take up to 6 months to build it up again.0
