18866 Question

I have registered my mobile phone to use with 18866. Does anyone have any tips on how to actually use the prefix number with the number I want to dial. For example, unless I am superhuman and can memorize all my numbers, there seems to be the only way of writing the number down first that I want to ring. I can't add the prefix number into the phone's directory, as you have to wait for the voice prompt before dialling the normal number. Unless if course anyone knows otherwise and I have missed something.

The Op Capyboppy is talking about using 18866 from there mobile. The 18866 code does not work from a mobile,so they would have to use either one of the two alternative access numbers 08081701701 or 02070019797 depending on what network they are on,and whether they had a contract or not.

You would enter a number in your memory as follows
    020770019797.pause,07812345678 ending with a hash.

If your on an Orange Contract phone it does benefit you to use the 0800 access no as you can reduce the cost of most of your calls. However if you are on Orange PAYG or any other network you need to be selective about what numbers you route by it,as it can cost you more specially if you have lots of inclusive minutes to use.

I have a Nokia 3310 and it is a pay as you go. I am not familiar with a pause button on it, I don't think it has one, so further advice on this would be appreciated.

By the way folks, I am a "she" not a "he" A definite difference :D

On a Nokia phone press the "star" key 3 times quicky. A "p" will appear on the screen to indicate a pause.

Oh yes! definitely female under my fur :o Type capyboppy and Bill Peet in Google and you will see :rotfl:

Right, enough of the frivolities of life. I have tried that and indeed a "p" comes up to indicate pause.

I then tried an experiment first to ring my own home number with the prefix number, but unfortunately because it is a pay as you go phone I was charged 21p to access the call. So in this particular case even with the cheapest option which is mobile to landline it does not pay unless you have a contract phone with free minutes. It was worth a try though, and at least I have learned how to use the "pause" facility!

I have found the benefit though of ringing the USA to one of my Internet friends. This is something I would never have contemplated before, but at 2p a minute (plus the 2p connection charge) it is well worth 15 minutes a week to cheer him up ;)

What PAYG network are you on,and have you got any free minutes EG o2 online. I ask this this because you do have to take into account the cost of the call to the 0207 access no so this could be say 20p,so your call to the states could be costing 22p a min.If you get my drift.(Unless you are on Voda and you are using the Stop the Clock Evening and Weekend promo of course).
