Travel Insurance-be careful!

I stayed at a Travelodge in Kings Cross in January and left my Bose noise reduction earphones in the hotel room when I left, these cost £275.
I contacted the hotel but nothing had been handed in, I did not open my case until I returned home and that was the only place I could have left them as I used them when I was in the room, but what could I do?
I called Churchill Insurance only to find that I am not covered away from home, I told them that I had not seen any option on line to book additional cover but they did not want to know-Lesson one!
Lesson two- I rang my travel insurance company, booked through Travel Supermarket, who told me that I could not claim as I had not booked two nights in advance!
When i asked what difference it made they simply said it was their terms and conditions and I could not claim.
I honestly hope that my experience will encourage everyone to check their policies before going anywhere to avoid this sort of thing happening to them!

What do you mean you hadn't booked two nights in advance? Is it an annual travel policy and you hadn't told them you were going away?0
