BT aaaaarrrrrgh

Spent over an hour on the phone to BT to be told time after time I am through to the wrong dept, that they cannot do what I want, etc.
All I want is to stop my broadband at the end of March but keep my Emails so I can access them whilst I am away.
Why is this so hard for BT? Why do I have to ring 0870 number for this?
Anyone from BT?

And no doubt cut us off.

BT have cut us off twice and misdirected us 3 times in the past 75 mins. Even the people in the 'I want to leave BT dept' can't deal with us.

We are now in month 6 of a dispute with BT (which involved cutting us off, not giving us the £75 credit promised to us, not activating our VOIP phone, supplying us with 2mb braodband whilst charging us for 8mb, giving us the one and only telephone number that we didn't want and giving us a mispelt/useless business email address).

Have spoken to over 30 people since August and it still isn't sorted.

I really hate them. Have a pile of notes here going back 6 months, plus a load of bills threatening to cut us off because we haven't paid them for the services we haven't been receiving.

It just goes round and round. Billing say speak to technical. Technical say speak to billing. Bills are put on hold because in dispute. Then suddenly we get another red letter and we go round in circles again.

We want to just leave but having read the phones forum on here it seems the other providers are not much better. Don't know what to do.

OH and I are both thoroughly stressed now, after what I thought would be a simple call to BT to get them to delete a duplicate online account.
First you choose from 5 options, then you choose from another 5 options, then another option….which tells you to hang up and call a different number. Which I did. Again, an automated voice asking you to choose between 5 options, then another 4 options, then yet another few options….. and then you get put on hold. 10 minutes later I get thru to an operator (HURRAH!) who doesn’t seem to grasp what I’m saying, but says he’ll put me thru to e-billing, so I go on hold again….. for another 20 minutes!!! After which time I gave up and hung up.
I then went online to see if I could contact them by email. They seem to want to automate everything. It’s very difficult to find a contact email, and in the end I emailed them using their complaints form, as it seems the operator has changed us to paper-free billing, which I did not ask for and don't want, and the website now won’t let me change it back.
This is so stupid. Over an hour this has taken us, all in all. It should have just been a quick query and a case of someone hitting the delete button for an old, obsolete account. If BT didn’t have a monopoly on the land line I’d quite happily tell them where they can stick it, but alas it’s them or nothing, and I don’t really want to be without a land-line phone.
    Ah, well...
  • Finally sorted I hope!
Phoned head office 020773565000, spoke to someone on the COT team they said that contrary to what several other people had told me I would not loose my Email account when I left BT broadband. If I continue to use the Mail account I will be registered for Premium Mail at a cost of about £1.50 a month.
After all the hassle I insisted he Email me to confirm this which he has now done.
I leave BT broadband on 23rd March and hope my Emails will not be lost.
