public transport from london to sheerness- help please

i hope someone can point me in the right direction. i need to find a cheap way of getting from london to sheerness on the isle of sheppey. i have checked megabus and national express but no luck, and the cheapest rail ticket i can find is 16quid.
does anyone have any ideas? i dont have a credit or debit card so am unable to book any tickets online.
i would be travelling midweek, probably around 10-11am
thanks in advance

i think one way price from Victoria is around a fiver, but give them a call to find out.

Edit: Ooops the above service is really a commuter service, you won't find any service before 4:14pm :(

I think you are really limited to train and you will have to change at Sittingbourne.

we were obviously looking at it at the same time! think i will have to leave it then cos i really cant afford the train. my ex is in an open prison down there and has been begging me to take our son to see him, wanted to see if it was doable but maybe not.

    thanks anyway

That's the cheapest you will get it I'm afraid.

If you are likely to do it regularly a family railcard (£24) will bring it down to £14.25 - that's total for both of you, assuming your son is 5-15. You don't need to buy online.

Would that be Eastchurch prisons? If so I think the only way of doing this is on the train from Victoria 10:39 - Sittingbourne arr 11:55

    Then either:
Train to Sheerness and then bus to the prisons bus 364
    Or
Train to Queensborough then bus 360 or 362 to the prison - I think these buses are Arriva
    Or
Bus from Sittingbourne Station 322 direct to prisons
departs Sittingbourne sta 12:10 arr 12:35 prisons
departs prisons 16:40 arr Sitt 17:05

    both buses operated by www.chalkwell.co.uk

I think the railcard fares are the best £24 for the card then you can go as many times as you like at these fares.
£14.25 to sheerness rtn for adult & child + 364 (or 367) bus fare
£12.80 to Sittingbourne return for adult and child. + 322 bus fare

    Hope you can go.

its standford hill open prison (dont know if that helps at all). my son is only 4 months old so wouldnt need to pay for him anyway. he called me last night and said he thinks there is a coach service from victoria going directly to the prison, i assume for people like me. he is gonna try and find out and call me later on, so maybe he will get to see his son after all.

    thanks for the help :)

Yes Standford is one of the Eastchurch prisons. I checked HMP Standford Hill website (sorry can't do links at the moment) "visitor information" and they don't mention the Victoria coach. So I think he might be disappointed to find there's no such coach.

You could phone the prison and ask them. check their website for a phone number.

    No problem, cheers. :)

i looked on their website as well, but as the info on the prison he was in previously was pretty out of date i'm not taking the site as 'gospel' if you know what i mean! dont have any credit but am gonna call them when i go out shortly

  • Why don't you see if there is anyone else who is doing the same trip. Perhaps you could get a lift. Ask your other half if there is anyone who has family nearby, who visits with a car. You will then need to make sure you both have VO's for the same day.
Some people are like a slinky. Not much use for anything, but they bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.
