Buyer complaint to PAYPAL

For goodness' sake, pgi, there's no point in the feedback system at all if people fail to report fraudulent buyers/sellers just in case of "tit for tat" revenge neg feedback.
Neg them, follow up with Paypal, and stuff the consequences.
One neg on a good record isn't going to put off any buyer with any brain, particularly when it's filed by a flake.0 -
All great and noble Marky, but i've seen so many people on these forums go through this process, neg the other person and being quite right to do so THEN being horrified when the other person leaves a retaliatory neg which they WILL do.
You're right one neg won't make a button of difference to your buying and selling power but you have to look at that neg on your record for a whole year and for some people that can be a problem - hence the question i asked. If principle and the £4 is more important than the neg then great - go for it.
BTW, and for example. I bought an item from an ebayer recently for £4, plus £3 postage. It turned out to be not as described and effectively useless. When emailed, his approach was 'its your problem now m8'. Even if i had fought my corner with him and got my money back, he'd have insisted on it being posted back, costing me £3, and i'd have wasted hours and hours with emails, contacting ebay, waiting on their response, packaging it up, taking it to the post office, waiting in the queue, getting proof of postage, waiting for him to acknowledge he got it, waiting on the payment, etc, etc. And i just thought stuff it, lifes too short, what comes around goes around.
Yes i do and will continue to report on fraudulent buyers and sellers and take appropriate action when that occurs but i'm not going to spend hours and hours worrying and getting upset over a few £ lost to some flake who will probably be no longer using ebay in a months time anyway.
With your 'stuff the consequences' approach - Realistically where would you draw the line? Would you stand by your approach every time? You neg this guy, he negs you back, some other cretin blows you off next month so you do the same - before you know it you could have four or five retaliatory negs against you and at that point i suspect your approach would go out the window....0 -
Finally got my answer from PAYPAL
A full refund on this PayPal transaction will be awarded to you once the
item, in its original condition, is sent to PayPal.
Please send the item to the following address:
PayPal Returns
48233 Warm Springs Blvd.
Dock #2
Fremont, CA 94539-7654
Attn: Buyer Protection Claims - No. ***********
Make sure you include your case number in the address above. Please
understand that you are responsible for postage and packing costs and that
PayPal is not responsible for materials that are lost during delivery.
So I'm supposed to spend more money packaging up the faulty item and sending it to the USA!!!
What's the point in complaining - I've negged her and won't bother sending the bag back - its only fit for the bin anyway!
So what happens to the seller for misadvertising? Nothing that I can see she gets the money and I'm risking getting a neg back for my honest feedback.
I can't do a chargeback on my credit card cos the PAYPAL system forces you to pay with the money in your account rather than choosing to pay by credit card.
I don't think I'll be bothering with the complaint system again - useless, useless, useless!!0 -

I!
In future clear your paypal account first and then try paying and selecting pay by credit card. Otherwise as you say paypal default to using your balance first.

It doesn't matter how you actually pay for it via paypal - you still can't do a credit card chargeback IMHO.0 -
I would be very surprised if Paypal do anything as you have received the item.
I won - for my son, 2 Xbox games. In the TOS it stated they were christmas presents that were unwanted and only opened to take pictures. We bid quite a bit as there were 2 disks and when they arrived they were terribly scratched. I mailed the seller about this and he said he would refund me £10 if I wanted to keep them. I asked my son and he said he did but my refund never came. The seller then stopped all contact, so I contacted Ebay and Paypal. Ebay as usual didn't get involved and Paypal said that as I had received the item, there was nothing they could do.
Now I always pay via Paypal and if the item isn't as described, I will return it back to the seller and tell Paypal that I never received the item.0 -
You'd think the seller would have a conscience as PAYPAL found in my favour, but there I go again expecting people to have similar values to me!
I'll put it down to experience I think and just keep my fingers crossed that I don't get a neg back in revenge for mine. I should be pleased I suppose that its the only transaction on E-Bay that's gone wrong for me and every other E-Bayer I've dealt with have been very helpful and professional even when items haven't been quite right.0 -

Actually it is possible to do a credit card chargeback if an item is paid via a credit card through paypal. It is the most effective way of protecting yourself as a buyer. There has been one or two examples on here where people has managed to get money back via a credit card when paypal were less than helpful.
The only time you may have more difficulty is where the seller is based overseas as some of the credit card protections only work where both the buyer and seller are in the UK.

Bowing to your superior knowledge, can you point me to a post where someone has succeeded in this?
Thanks

I wouldn't even know where to start to look as the thread titles sometimes don't bear any relevance to what we all end up chatting about. Hopefully it was one of the regulars who will be able to post their success here again.
Even my own example doesn't help as I ended up getting a refund from the seller and cancelling my credit card chargeback so I don't know whether it would have gone as smoothly as I was led to believe.
