Problem with Bosch WFK 5730 washing machine

Just put a load of washing on this morning, first load washed fine, went to get second load out and the items on the top of the load were dry but the things in the bottom half were very wet. Put the machine on a different wash cycle but same thing again, noticed that the drum isn't going round. Have also tried it on a spin cycle only but drum still doesn't move. Hubby just had a look at the belt but that seems fine, isn't broken, anyone any other ideas what we should look at? Machine is about 9 or 10 years old so don't really want to pay call out charges, as I don't think the machine is worth it.

  • This happened to me a couple of months ago. Bosch machine with same symptoms. Turned out to be carbon brushes. Bought locally for about £15 and fitted by myself. Everything now OK. Hope this helps.

Have got the back off the machine - silly question but how do I know where to find the brushes and is it obvious if they need replacing? Was it a small local shop or somewhere like B&Q?
  • The carbon brushes are located on the motor. You will need to remove the motor. You can then get access to the brushes by releasing them from their locations. You should be able to see how worn they are even in situ. Got ours from a local washing machine repair guy. This might not be the answer but would be my first port of call.

Thanks for that, willing to try anything to save buying a new machine.
  • My 17 year-old Bosch WFK5730 ceased to function in a similar manner to the one belonging to shopndrop's. Having read your solution I took out the motor (which was covered in carbon dust), removed the endplate and discovered that the carbon brushes were defunct.

Had to buy an endplate for the motor @ £59.45 from DIY Tools of Liverpool (online), which contained the brushes.

I consider this a bargain to get my old faithful machine working again. It is a splendid machine and this is only the second fault that has occured in 17 years.

    Thank you for your advice.

    Kind regards,
