states at bottom of letter `If there is no contact by this date, it will result in this record moving forward to our investigation unit where further research will be undertaken. This unit will also be undertaking outbound telephone calls to various sources including neighbours, to verify that the information supplied is correct '
My Mum received the same letter from Telogram today addressed to someone else but looks very like my maidn name - and last known address is my brothers. Interestingly, I have not used maidn name for 19yrs and I'm not aware of any outstanding debts - I have no knowledge of this or any of the other companies. I have also taken calls from someone fishing for information about a neighbour and someone asking to speak to the person whom the letter is addressed. 6 months ago a bank account I have not used for nearly 20yrs ( in maidn name) - was accessed, I asked the bank to investigate, which they did and the amount was credited back into the account.
The bank took responsibility but I'm now very concerned this has something to do with the said above company.
Can Telogram or as I suspect Capquest access an account without authorisation? I have asked Experian for an up to date credit report - credit report from 2000 was fine.0 -

I have today received a letter from Crapquest in exactly the same terms and i intend to take the advice from robpw2 to ignore it.'I'm as mad as hell and I'm not gonna take it....for much longer!'0 -
I have just joined this site as googled capquets and found this old thread.
Just wondered if anyone could help as I'm really worried.
Letter came for OH, full name including middle with our last complete address.
Oh has very large depts, tens or thousands. went of the rails for a while after wife died and ended up with huge depts through ignoring and insurances that wouldn't pay and he didn't fight them.
Read others said to ignore but as I know money is owed somewhere not sure what to do? we've been given a time limit of 13 Jan.
We rent our house, have toddler and new born baby, all money goes into my account OH doesn't have one.
Not 100% what depts are, know some are Abby closed bank acc, Double glazing when had a morgate with wife, 2/3 credit cards. The house was sold when wife died as insurance refused to pay up, was told about illness she had from birth but denide this when OH got in touch.
Also, were hoping to get married this year, would moneys owed get linked to me??0 -
HI I just received one of these letters too asking if I live here.
I know I do owe a few hundred pounds on some old credit cards but I havent been in contact with the card company for 5 years now.
I dont want to call them because I am a single mum on income support with a 12 week old baby and a 3 year old and I cant afford to pay them.
Ive had a problem with another debt recovery agency Mackensie Hall over one of my old credit card debts. I owed citibank £250, but by the time they found me it was nearly a thousand pounds! I told them my circumstances and offered to pay them £5 a week. They said it wasnt good enough but even so I set up a standing order and have been paying them every week. They still sent me letters threatening me with court action and they sent text messages to my landline telling me to call them immediatly. I recently got them to stop by complaining to the FSO but I cant go through it all again with these people.
Should I just ingnore the letter?0 -
Hi
If you have not paid a debt for more than 6 years, it becomes statute barred, which means that whilst the debt still exists the law, the courts and the OFT consider it unfair for the DCA to chase you.
The Dca cannot force you to pay, it is purely optional.
And if it was more recent you should be reclaiming any charges on the citibank account. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
I too have just recieved a "telogram" letter, asking me to verify my identity, but strangly they say its for an address i used to live at 19 years ago. fortunatly i was already aware of companys such as this ( although telogram is a tracing dept for various different outfits), and being a little clued up on the way the system works phoned them to quiz them. the woman who answered stated she couldnt divulge any info unless i confirmed i was mr Bloggs, which i didnt. she then said that no christian name was on file only an initial, and could i confirm that i was mr B Bloggs (little bit sneeky i thought). i declined to confirm or deny anything so i am expecting the mail and phone call barrage to start up soon (cant wait lol). meanwhile i then done some digging of my own and to my horror have found that in the last 21 day period Capquest debt collectors ltd, have made two credit checks on me at my current and previous address. I know about the statue barred limits but am curious to know if anyone can help, can this company credit search me without my knowledge or is there a piece of hidden small print that lets them get away with this. any help would be most grateful.0
