Not good enough, FE. They must supply you with FULL details of any 'alleged debt'.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

Sorry to Hijack this but i have also received letters from this company, the first was from Telogram saying i owed Littlewoods xxx.xx amount of money - for a start i don't have a Littlewoods account, so i rang them and they said sorry the letter was sent to the wrong "Kingsd316" - then yesterday i arrived home to find a legal letter from HL Legal, which said i owe money, I did ring them and they assured me that it was another error and my address has been removed
Whats next then, will i get the crapquest letter soon??
PS i have no debts, no credit cards and no store cards, I live with the policy "if i cant afford it i don't buy it"
Thanks:beer:0 -

It looks as though you have been 'caught up' in a typical Crapquest' Phishing excercise, whereby they will write to everybody with a similar surname, in the hope of 'netting' the correct 'debtor'.
This is in direct contravention of the Office of Fair trading Guidelines on Debt Collection: http://www.oft.gov.uk/shared_oft/business_leaflets/consumer_credit/oft664.pdf
You should, in the first case, report these 'chancers' to your local Trading Standards Office.
Certainly, if you receive any further letters/phone calls, this could be seen as 'Harrassment', which is a Criminal offence.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.

sorry to hijack, but I have received a letter from telogram today acting on behalf of CapQuest. They are making enquiries to establish the current residential address of myself, stating a last known address which was infact my ex husbands old address. I have never lived at this address.. really worried! got to contact them by 28/03/08
states at bottom of letter `If there is no contact by this date, it will result in this record moving forward to our investigation unit where further research will be undertaken. This unit will also be undertaking outbound telephone calls to various sources including neighbours, to verify that the information supplied is correct '0 -
do not respond its a phishing excercise they try to scare you into answering .
DO not respond they have to prove you owe them money not the other way round.
Do not respond. they would be breaking data protection lawas if they reveaked anything to your neigbours.

Based on other post's today, it seems that Telo have been busy.
Office of Fair Trading, Contact page: http://www.oft.gov.uk/advice_and_res...ase/legal/cca/
Consumer Credit Association, enquiries page: http://www.ccauk.org/consenquiries.htm
I would suggest that you write a formal complaint to the OFT and the CSA enclosing the letter, as threatening contacting neighbours is unlikely to meet their standards.
In the mean-time, do not ring this mob. it is most unlikely that they can do anything even if you have a debt and it is very likely that any debt is unenforceable. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Thanks for your information, I have received a letter today dated 24/03/08 from H L Legal (4 days after the other dated 20/03/08 asking me to get in touch by 28/03/08 What a joke!!)
I have not contacted them, the new letter stats [if no response is received by 06 april 08, our client will then reort back to capquest investments ltd that they have been unable to confirm that the information supplied by Equifax is incorrect. As a consequence, we have been informed that one of cqpquest group companies capquest debt recovery or its doorstep agents, Scotcall, will be contacting you on or after06 april 08.]
look forward to your reply0 -
Hi there,
I received a leter from Telogram over a week ago and I did call them but didnt give them too much info. But I suppose I shouldnt havent phoned them in the first place. But a few days ago I received a letter from Capquest saying that Im due £66 pounds, wasnt completely sure if it was to Great Universal but I saw that name somewhere on the letter. Anyway I have been advised that in Scotland after 5yrs companies cannot claim from you after this time. But I dont think Im due money anyway! I am now in touch with Citizens Advice Bureau again to now find out what is going on here. And I wish everyone the best in this situation. Its not fine to receive this sort of thing!

Absolutely correct, fionz. The Prescription and Limitation (Scotland) Act, 1973 states that, providing you have made no payment towards, nor made any written acknowledgement of, a 'debt' for a period of FIVE YEARS (as opposed to SIX years in England/Wales) then that 'debt' is Statute Barred. Once you have informed the Creditor, or dca, that you do not intend to pay the debt as it is Statute Barred (the only reason you need give) then they can, no longer, pursue the 'debt' through the courts, and should cease any efforts to further pursue you for payment.
For more information, and a template letter that you can use, have a look at the following link:
