Hi to you all,
It's my first post so please be patient. Right I receaved my new lloyds tsb rewards american express card this morning. Cancelled my old platinum and upgraded to this. Been spending all afternoon updating all my internet shopping account to this new card only to find not one site takes it!!! Rand lloyds up and explained to them the problem. See when I was updating my credit card info to the new one i was choosing american express, Lloyds tsb tells me that this is wrong because it's not acctually a AMEX card??? Right so what is I say? It's a visa says the person on the end of the phone. So i try it using the visa option but still not having it. Get this tho AMEX cards have a 15 diget number VISA have 16. Mine has 15 and a whopping big AMEX sign on it but no company will recognise it as a AMEX credit card. And when I try the it as a VISA all the sites say a must enter the full 16 digit number!!!!
Anybody else had this problem, cus i'm gonna give it a week and if still no joy i'll go back to me platinum.
cheers

The picture of the card on theor site has 15 also and AMEX mark not visa - can't see how it could be a visa !
Are the rewards any better with LloydsTSB version of a AMEX - appears only 0.5% - i'll be tempted to go for the AMEX credit card ( blue - 1% on spend over £2000)Any posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0 -

Thats what I said to the lloyds tsb phone operator but there were just as confused as me. It's neither visa nor amex??? So what the hell is it???
as for the rewards ya have to spend a min of 2k to get £10 back. Not good at all. But with my plat I was gettin no rewards so somethings better than nothing. In saying that I now have a card that a can't use

Don't listen to what LTSB tell you. LTSB are providing you with the finance and AMEX is the card network. On a normal American Express card, American Express would provide the finance as well as the card network.
When filling in any internet forms you need to enter Amex. You can only use the card at merchants that accept American Express.Charles J0 -
Sites dont take my card always get an error when entering the info in. It's all entered right cus i've checked it over and over again??? I ring the site up (HMV, eBay, Paypal etc.. and there say its a prob with card?) Rang lloyds up no probs there end????

As long as your card begins 37 then its an Amex card. I don't mean to sound patronising but are you entering the 4 digit security code.
There must be a problem somewhere because all of those merchants take AMEX.
I don't know what else to suggest. I've never had a problem with my AMEX card although mine was issued by American Express.Charles J0 -
yep 4 digit sec code was entered and me card number begins with 37. I dont know whats wrong? The main probs i'm having are with eBay and paypal. I've got HMV updated but i think that was because it did'nt have a visa/amex option. rang paypal up and was told that me card has been refused because the issuer has stoped it? Lloyds did'nt know nothing about that?

Could it be that the card number is in a new range, which are not at present recognised by the retailers?
The other possibility (related to the above) is that Amex may not have updated its records with the new number ranges.
These are only suggestions. Maybe it might be an idea to contact Amex (although I reckon Amex will say contact Lloyds)."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0 -
I'll just keep trying and see if it works over the next week.
