Can I sell my luggage allowance?

Hi
My 3 year old son and I are flying to New Zealand next month via the US. We have a luggage allowance of 2 bags each at no more than 23kg per bag, that's a total of 92kg! I estimate we only need 20kg allowance.
Can we sell the rest? If so, how? I would of course have to declare this as things I am carrying for someone else and I guess request anyone to fill in a customs declaration.
I would be ahppy to share it with anyone else on the same flights who wants to take more than their allowance, but how do I find them?
Nifty

I'll buy it off you - if you'd be kind enough to take through these 60kgs of crack cocaine for me that would be great..........:rotfl:
Somehow I dont think the airlines would take kindly to you responding to the question "did you pack these bags yourself" by saying "no, this guy off the internet asked me to carry this bag through for him....":rolleyes:0 -
Security will not allow it, end of.;)0

Strikes me as a very good way to spend the next several years worrying how to pick the soap off the floor in the shower0

Not the best idea I've ever seen posted here, a quick way to find yourself spending sometime in jail:j Debt free since 31/01/08:j

In fairness, if you tell security that you did not pack your bags yourself then you just guarantee that everything will be examined. Provided you are early for your flight, and there is nothing illegal in your luggage, you will not get into trouble. At worst, you might get a dirty look from an overworked security officer.
My experience: some years ago, I contacted every member of a tour group going to Nicaragua and asked them if I could use some of their luggage allowance. Together with friends, I then put all my time and energy into a fund-raising effort, and used the money to buy much-needed medical supplies for Nicaragua (buying at concessional prices from a local wholesaler). Thanks to the tour group, transport costs were nil. This gift led to a twinning arrangement between the city where I then lived, and the community in Nicaragua that we helped.0 -

Me too! My rucksack coming back from Oz was 38kg which I lugged around the country myself On getting it back at Heathrow it had a warning sticker on it saying it needed two baggage handlers, one wasn't allowed to carry it on their own! I'm 5'6" female of average build! Wimps.
I think you can opt not to have your baggage allowance and get a reduction in your flight price but I would not under any circumstances carry someone elses luggage :eek:0 -
I have told the check in desk i did not pack X and it went through without any problems... though i have a feeling it did get scanned / checked again but this was leaving africa rather than leaving the UK.
Have seen many a time in asia where it has been sold but i think generally even if you want to make money its not a good thing to sell your space... If someone offers you go for it but otherwise just leave it.0 -
Thanks for the information. I would love to get a reduction in our ticket price for less luggage. I have tried asking friends and family if they want anything brought over, but so far have had requests for two small items only.0
