Firewire card + cable for only £2.99 + del

I wanted to upgrade my dell dimension 3000 (which I bought earlier this year with) with firewire ports. I found the following on Amazon and thought it was a fanatsic deal for £2.99 which even includes a firewire cable:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000684LDI/qid=1121784965/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_3_1/202-8397341-5275051

I thought this might be useful for some of you guys.

The funny thing is that Amazon also sells this product which I believe is identical to the £2.99 one for £21.15!!!

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00006JIMG/ref=pd_ecc_rvi_1/202-8397341-5275051

Thus i think the £2.99 might be a mis-price, what do you think?

Be a little careful with cheap firewire cards, XP can be a bit picky which it wants to use. Some chipsets on these cards dont work as well as others.

Also XP does have a "thing" about seeing camera's or not! to be more exact, check the MS knowledge base for more info. So getting a really cheap card may not be in your interest if it means you then have 2 things that could be to blame for your OS not seeing your new camera that you just plugged in to transfer that video ;)

Of course if your ordering something else from amazon anyway so its free postage then it makes sense to try one at that price doesnt it. They have been at that price for a while now btw.
All Dell'd up ;) several times over :)

It also has on that page get £5 off any computer component when you buy a Hauppauge WinTV Nova-T USB2 TV tuner- so can you use this to get effectively a £2 discount?:)

I think that this must be a mistake. because those cards are identical. So I dont think that it is a cheap card. I looked at the manufacturer's website:

    http://www.nisis.com/Products/PCComponents/Components.asp

And they only do the one card of this type (iei 4 port firewire card).

Also, Comet has this same card selling at £29.99:

    http://www.comet.co.uk/comet/html/cache/211_804323.html

I think the one at amazon is a mis-price and instead of listing it as £29.99 it has it for £2.99!!!

    Any other opinions?

Got a cheap firewire a while ago, doesn't work properly. I'll try this and we will see if the problem is from the card i got or the camcorder.

On Amazon, the cheaper item is listed as :-
    Model Number: 13001
    ASIN: B000684LDI

The more expensive one as :-
    Model Number: 16101
    ASIN: B00006JIMG

It rather looks as though the cheaper one may be old stock being sold off. Any thoughts ?

Spec for the cheaper one is not given.

Spec for the more expensive is :-

The chipset determines if it will work with xp sp2.

Texas instrument chipsets work with xp sp2 while via chipsets do not.

Via chipsets work with xp sp1.

Cant tell what the chipset is on these.

Just clicked the link - looks like Amazon might be out of stock as you can no longer add it to basket. Still 2 showing available from other sellers from £2.95.
