- When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.
But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free.
Examples could be charging your phone up at work instead of at home to save your electricity, hanging the washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.
So be proud of those small steps, they really are important.
Today I will - Check online banking

Let's see. What have I done?
-got up early and packed my work lunch, so that I'm not tempted to pick up more expensive junky food when I stop for petrol on the way to work
-popped some instant coffee, sugar, and powdered creamer in my bag for work so that I don't spend extra money on coffee from canteen at work
-made some chicken stock from leftover chicken carcass from last night's dinner and put it in fridge, this evening will put it into two smaller containers and freeze (finished after midnight with this last night, so I'm counting this as today's task). The money I'm saving on these three things will come directly out of the grocery budget this month, and any money left goes onto extra
credit card payment.
-today I'll be working on my meal plans for the next 2 weeks and putting together the shopping list (I did the cupboard/freezer inventory, crossed off things that are already earmarked for this week's meal plans, and will use what is left on list towards this new meal plan)
DH & I decided that for Valentine's Day, we wanted a low key romantic evening - no cards, no gifts - just nice relaxed evening together, maybe watching a movie together. This not only saves us the money from the cards/gifts, but the money for the petrol and parking it would've cost us to go into town and get them.
Feeling pretty good about today's activities. The grocery things we have been working hard to do regularly, so each time we do them we're pleased we're still following through. It's amazing how quickly some of this stuff adds up! I got a pay rise at work with the backpay in my pay this month of almost £200. Last year, we would've said "oooh fun money!" and probably wasted it. This £200 goes straight to bills, as we are determined to get our credit cards paid off as soon as possible. Less "ra-ra" fun maybe, but certainly more satisfying in the long run!MSE mum of DS(7), and DS(4) (and 2 adult DCs as well!)DFW Long haul supporters No 210:snow_grin Christmas 2013 is coming soon!!! :xmastree:0 -

I will not be sending (and probably receiving!) Valentine's cards!
I will post off all the stuff I's sold on Ebay/Play/Amazon this week and transferring the money to pay off my credit card and a bit to my savings.
