Hi
Your reaction is fairly typical of everyones reaction. I swear that every word is true incredible though it is. Everybody says it isn't right but the only people that have offered any help have only been interested in what they can get out of it and I can't afford to pay a barrister to sort this out!
Thanks for your concern....Mike0 -
Yup they are described as fines !!!
Wouldn't the same principles apply here as with bank charges, that is, they must reflect a true cost to the company rather than just be a 'fine' for someone not behaving in a way they approve of? I may be wrong, but I would have thought the princple would remain the same.Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!0 -
Hi Mike
This situation does not sound right at all. I am very qualified mortgage broker (have been doing it for 7 years) and know that what they have done is not right. There are limits as to what they can and cannot do after they have repossesed your property in terms of the debt outstanding and how long they have to persue it.
Okay, the first thing that we need to sort out is how much of the original paperwork you still have? Also, this is a total stab in the dark but do you still have the mortgage offer that they gave you in 1989? Plus, when they reposessed the property, did they tell you how much you owed them in mortgage arrears (how many months of £444 did you owe?)0 -
Hi Mike,
If I were you I'd look at every possible way of fighting this unbelievable situation - Go to the citizens advice or as you are already doing, the relevant ombudsman. I would even ctc BBCs watchdog, you have nothing more you can lose and they will surely be as shocked as most of us are and hopefully will want to bring it to viewers attention and maybe get WBBS to reconsider what is absolutely disgraceful behaviour.
Sometimes it's clear that there are some people, not everyone, but some in the financial world, who have absolutely no scrupples or conscience, treating people with total disregard - it makes me so angry!
I can only wish you all the best to you and your wife in overcoming this situation.
John
PS BTW there are some responses on yr thread under the mortgage forums... he0 -

I have all the original paperwork, in fact everything the West Brom had on record. From memory the arrears were £19k including fines at the time of repossesion. I will get back to you with the correct figures.

I went to the CAB some years ago and was referred to an unscrupulous firm who talked the talked but did nothing because they realised there was nothing in it for them. A researcher from Trevor McDonalds programme a few years but they never followed up on it. You would have thought that the TV would be interested in my story considering the recent rise in repossesions.
Thanks for your concern......Mike0 -
Bump...pls someone help him...if iwas a solicitor id do it for free...wish i could help..best wishesTO FINISH LAST, FIRST YOU HAVE TO FINISH....0

I would forget the CAB, Martin Lewis (sorry but he is unlikely to reply, one wouldn't get involved, I think), and your MP (they are useless), take the opportunity of the 1/2 hour free consultation at a solicitors and start the process to get this sorted. This needs to be sorted pronto, no time for e-mail him/her/that programme, you are unlikely to get a response.
Sorry to be harsh, but the solicitors is the way forward, you cannot rely on anyone but yourself to get the ball rolling on this one.
