Will asking for MAC code mean I am commiting to transfer?

Hi all, i've just discovered that I can get 8mb unlimited broadband from O2 for a mere £12.50 a month rather than the £19.99 I pay Orange. Although Orange supplied their own equipment, I already had my own router so have no need to install their router and, because I make very few phone calls, I don't take advantage of the discount calls via their router.
Therefore, I was thinking of asking for my MAC code to try and get them to drop their price (my Orange connection has been ULTRA reliable and don't really want to swap).
So my question is...if I ask for the MAC code and they don't offer me a better deal, am I comitted to changing provider or can I just ignore it and carry on with Orange.

M.A.C. stands for
Migration Access Codes
Generally known as MAC codes allow you to seamlessly switch broadband provider, without any break in your service. Technically, a MAC code is like a serial number used to identify your broadband connection within the local exchange. If you’re switching provider and they have this code, they can simply move your connection over to their service.
I think I would ring them up and find out what deals they are currently offering dropping a hint that you have a better offer elsewhere.
8MB download speed, do you really get this speed? I would think not.
As you are using a BT line I would assume the chances of reaching half that amount is really pushing it.
It would depend on how far from the exchange you are and how many people are connected at the same time as you. This slows down your speed.
If they promise to send you a MAC and you do not receive it within 14 days then, the chances are they will stall you. Once you have committed yourself to another service and cut your links with Orange. If you have no MAC, you have no internet connection either.
If you are happy with Orange and want to stay with them chance your arm and haggle.
I hope you make the right choice.

MAC code being the migration code needed to migrate from one ISP to another. Are you sure your exchange is supported by O2? I can't get them on mine.0

They are time limited in that the code will expire after 30 days from issue but you are under no obligation to use it or transfer once you ask for one. You can simply let it lapse and ask for another one later if you so wish. And they are simply there to make the transition smoother but they're not completely necessary. I managed to transfer to another broadband ISP relatively recently and didn't even need to request a MAC."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

I've gone to O2, the connection is very good, I was with Orange £10 per month, got a connection speed of 700kps, they told me my line was only able to get 1mb although they signed me up to the "up to 8mb" package, I now get 3.7mbs and pay less because I have an O2 mobile, and it's free customer support numbers. Good luck with your switch, I think mine took about 2 weeks from order to box to switch on.There are 10 types of people in the world; those who understand binary and those who don't...0
