can't get credit card or a current account but got a contract mobile

I have applied for the adverse credit cards and to get current accounts but was declined. I only tried as i was accepted for a contract mobile which is strange as my credit is rubbish. They want you to build your credit up but how can you if no one gives you the chance to get credit?

I just don't understand how i can't get a catalogue, credit card or a current account but can get a contract mobile.

Have you tried applying for a Basic Bank account?

that is my OH,
has a basic bank account and manages to get a contract phone with o2!!

Because you are a far less risk to a mobile phone company than a bank or catalogue, simple as that.

exactly as above, getting a mobile phone contract is very easy from what I can tell risk wise. They pretty much will give one to nearly anyone. Credit Cards on the other hand are obviously harder to get.

If you're struggling to get a credit product then my advice is ensure you pay regulary (no missed monthly payments) on what you already have and just give it time. And by time at least 6months. It takes time to rebuild a rating so you have to be very patient.
