in Credit cards
As per my recent posts in the DFW section, my wife is leaving me and our finances are in a real mess, to say the least

.
Somehow we owe approx £16000 on 5 different cards. I am the sole name on 2 of the cards that have about £4000 between them while the remainder is on three cards that she is sole name on. Who is ultimately liable for these debts, is it a joint thing or is it the cardholder?
"We" have about £4000 in the bank but I suspect it is in her name. (yes, I am embarrased by this and I feel incredibly stupid). The only other assets "we" own are an estate car, in her name, paid for and worth £1000-ish, our motorhome, which has just over one year (13 months x £489) left to pay on it's loan, poss worth £15000-ish, and a small boat, rough value of £2000-ish. Both of these are in my name. If it gets dirty, where do we stand with regard to property?
Thanks in advance.
Martyn.

Whoevers name appears on the credit card statement for each account is liable for those debts. Your motorhome sounds like it still belongs to company providing the finance. As for the rest, not sure, maybe go and see the CAB?0

The debts that are in her name will have to be paid by her. So you owe £4000 plus whatever you owe for the motorhome and boat if its in your name:0
