Could I have some opinions please (MPVs - shortlist of 2/3)

We're coming up on our 3-yearly Motability changeover, and so hubby and I spent the weekend doing all the garages.

We need an MPV for various reasons - mainly medical/access, but there's also the fact that we have three boys and need to cart around a large wheelchair and a buggy.

We now have a shortlist of 2, the Ford S-Max and the Galaxy, and one we haven't tracked down yet, the VW Sharan.


So, could I have some opinions please - the two Fords are very close - the S-Max has slightly better access (strangely enough for the smaller vehicle, but it's due to the height of the sills), but the Galaxy obviously has that bit more space. In terms of downpayment, the difference isn't enough to become the decision maker.

The only bit so far we can identify as being the possible big difference - on paper they are equal in consumption at about 38mpg, but I wondered if anyone knows different about either.

Also, how do they stand on reliability? Admittedly the costs would be covered, but we can't afford to be without a vehicle for great lengths of time, so it is still an issue.




Now to the Sharan - seeing as it's about £1000 more downpayment, there needs to be something amazingly better this has over the Fords - anyone know of something, or shall we strike it off the list?


We're looking at autos (diesel in this case) by the way, and are coming from a Toyota Previa (which has been brilliant, but unfortunately they no longer make).
