Apologies if this is on the wrong place.
I've received a postal order for something i sold on ebay. Can i put this in my back account? i never get chance to get to a post office but my bank (HSBC) has a branch where i can pay cheques in through the machine til 10pm.
Hope someone can help
Thanks

If it is crossed (has two lines vertically down middle) then can only be banked, otherwise has to be cashed at po.0

I think they are valid for about six months.
I'm pretty sure they can be paid in at a bank whether they are crossed or not, but ONLY at a bank if they are crossed.
Why don't you try posting it to your bank, with an SAE and a request to return it to you if it cannot be paid into the bank account? That's assuming you can't get to the bank during normal time to ask the counter staff., which is what your post implies.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -

No it doesn't.
You can bank crossed or uncrossed postal orders.
The only thing you can't do is cash a crossed one at the Post Office. They have to be banked.0 -
You can cross it yourself if it helps0

If it looks like a normal cheque, with sort code and account number across the bottom, then you can pay it in to your bank. If it's the old style (smaller, and with a space to stick stamps on) banks don't take them any more so you'll have to cash it at a post office.0
