The ones like the one I saw yesterday on the M4 billowing out white smoke when he had his foot on the pedal, choking everyone behind him, luckily I had chosen to take the contraflow lane so I did not end up behind him, most other drivers had no choice to just sit behind him for the next 4 miles or so.

Unfortunaltely for me, I hadn't realised being in the contraflow lane would mean I missed my exit :rotfl: I dunno which was worse, sitting behind him choking or having to go on another 4 miles and come back again to my junction. I think I probably prefer the fresh air and the extra miles. But I got his number. He'll be getting a vist from VOSA.
  • Does this apply to busses? Cos there is a really nasty one that goes past my work every day!
  • i used to have a manky old bus round my way,the smoke was horendous,it went around town all day every day but never got stopped by the police.
but recently i must admit bus and goods operators seem to have got thier act together.
ocassionally you will see a truck like this but the penalties are so high if you are caught now so i would like to think they are heading back to base or off to get it sorted, you can blame them for that.

Yes applies to busses, coach or other public service vehicles.

Maybe they won't be so hard on this lorry I saw cos the smoke was blue/white not black  smoke is smoke though.

i would like to think if VOSA did investigate and found the vehicle is being repaired or has been repaired or taken out of service until repaired they wouldnt continue with the matter.but something tells me otherwise.

Did you miss the big signs telling you which lane you had to be in to take the exit? You know the ones - big, bright yellow on both sides of the carriageway and starting a mile from the contraflow with at least 3 repeat signs between the first and the start of the restriction. If I were you, I'd keep quiet about other people if that's your standard of driving.

Are you sure it came from the exhaust? After all, you've admitted that you're blind.

And white smoke indicates a serious problem. Perhaps you'd care to tell me where he was supposed to stop in the middle of a contraflow? Saying that, if he had, you'd be !!!!!ing about that as well.

And whilst you're having a go at lorries which, BTW have to have a full checkable service record, you may be interested to know the results of a recent VOSA check on a local industrial estate where 1 in 20 cars were found to have either no tax, MOT, insurance or combination of.

And cars, like the HUNDREDS I see on a weekly basis with at least either a headlight, rear sidelight or brake light out.

Lol Conor, you're always worth a laugh, I'll give you that. The contraflow starts 100 yds after the on ramp, I saw the smoke and decided to take the clean air lane. I'm glad I did that in hindsight.

Well it wasn't coming from his trailer. Where else but the exhaust? Yes it was from his exhaust.

He was on the motorway already, and if the contraflow starts 100yds after the junction where I joined he could have come off at that junction, he chose not to, he also chose not to come off at my intended junction, it was because he stayed on I managed to grab his number when the contraflow stopped.

but atleast they weren't smoky. So if it's a serious problem once he gets to his depot he will get the vehicle fixed ASAP and when VOSA finally catch up with him he will be able to say, yeah I had xyz problem and now it's been repaired. I reckon they won't be able to fine him unless he's still smoking and still on the roads when they catch up with him.

hmmmm the emphasis is on PSV and lorries smoking, rather than cars, but you could be right, I doubt they want to be told about cars with faulty lights. Are you sure when you see those cars they don't have their front and rear position lamps painted or masked over? Because as we both now know that would be entirely legal during a clear daylight hours. :p
