    It's certainly official.

It seems the scheme involves sending offenders a maximum of two warning letters, then they are 'targeted for enforcement' (whatever that might mean) by a police traffic unit.

so if say i was a presistent offender got 2 of these letters there would be a police car waiting outside my house every morning until they catch me creeping over the speed limit, they give me a £60 fine and 3 points.
    great use of resources. :T

do you think you would have a case against this for police harasment?

Well you sound just like the sort of person who would have several points having driven around without a care in the world for other road users.

    correct.
did you see me in the back of that police car on friday night?

I love it when the Police have a speeding blitz in a local village because a large percentage of those caught are local residents who themselves complain about speeding.

yes and theres always the village idiots that think because its a quiet village its ok to drive to the pub have a good drink every night of the week and then drive home because there is very little in the way of policing.

we get a speed check 10 till 11am on the last Sunday of every month

and it’s publicised in the village news letter the week before

    and people still get caught
  • We had some of the do-gooders outside our house collecting speeds.

Due to the large numbers speeding (some doing 70+ in a 30) the police set up a proper camera themselves. In one morning they caught (according to the local rag):

18 people speeding (40 mph+, including one doing 73 mph)
    11 untaxed and/or uninsured vehicles
8 people on the mobile telephone.
5 people with cars with serious mechanical defects.
4 people not wearing a seatbelt.
    4 numberplate offences
2 people wanted for missing court appearances.
    1 person driving whilst disqualified.
1 person driving on a provisional licence.
    4 non-motoring offences

Seems a good return on a couple of hours work to me!
  • and i bet most were locals!

I don't think it is anything official. Just an official looking letter that says naughty, don't do it again.

Which goes to the RK not necessarily the driver?

In my case, a girl in Poland.

So, a waste of a stamp.

To be honest, I think that speeding points should be doubled for speeding in a residential area, I bet some of those on here belittling this scheme would change their tunes if a speeding motorist killed or maimed one of their loved ones.
