Wireless router for cable: any recent experiences?

Can anyone recommend a wireless router to use with a Virgin (cable) internet connection? The guy in Maplin recommended a Netgear WGR614, which is on special offer at the moment. I looked at a few on-line reviews, and some people had terrible trouble. And most of the reviews are four or five years old, so the specifications may have changed since then.

  • I went wireless about 6 months ago withmy Virgin cable, out the back of my set top box.

I use a Linksys Wireless - G Model: WRT549S purchased from PC World. It was a bit of a nightmare to set upwith the instructions. I called Virgin and they gave me a freephone number for Linksys and a nice lady from the Phillipiens (wrong spellig i know) spent about an hour telling me what to do.

Since it has been set up I have had no problems whatsoever.

In an article in lasts months Computer Shopper (May 08?) they gave good marks to D-LINK DIR-615 (£48) and their Best Budget Buy was the BUFFALO Wireless-N Nfiniti Broadband Router (£58) which was particularly fast when matched with the Buffalo WL12-CB-G300N Cardbus Adopter (£40). The best for Bells and Whistles (although not particularly fast) was LINSKYS Wireless-N Gigabit Router with storage link. (£103)
