I've tried searching cos i know there must be a thread already on this but couldn't see anything
Anyway, my problem is spending a bomb every day on dinners. I work in central manchester so nothing is cheap! We don't have a microwave or toaster in the office which is rubbish and i'm not the best at making sandwiches the night before.
My question is, what other things can i make to bring with me to work that require minimal effort. Can you eat savoury rice cold? What things can i put in with pasta? Is there anything i can bulk make that can be eaten cold?
Thanks x

What about if some of you clubbed together to buy a microwave - is there room to site it? (that's if you can't persuade emplyer to cough up for one
) You can pick them up really cheaply and it would pay for itself very quickly compared to buying food out.
Alternatively, my DD's take packed lunches and often cold leftover rice, mixzed with fried off peppers, onions mushrooms and ham / chicken or tuna and sweetcorn pasta mixed with mayonnaise. Or what about soup in a flask, or one of those food flasks so you could take warm pasta / rice dishes?0 -
Hi All,
I've jusy polished off some leftover HM chicken casserole I made yesterday in slow cooker, and brought leftovers in for lunch in work.
Just wondering if any of you have any other suggestions for lunch ideas in work - I'm lucky in that we have a fridge and microwave, so often bring in leftoversPositive vibes:

My hubby just started a new job this week and he's on the go all day.
Unlike his old job where he went to lunch with the other workers in there lunchroom...he could store his food and heat it up in the microwave etc. but now he will have to buy his lunch everyday (burgers etc.)
Anyways, I was wondering if anyone can give me some tips on some lunches to make for him so that he won't always have to eat junk, spend money etc. Maybe some ideas that's won't have to be heated or chilled or hmmm you think I could maybe use one of those small frozen block things you put in coolers to keep something cool sometimes?*If you like the advice I give...let me know by clicking the THANKS button*

What about using bagels, either plain, onion or seeded instead of sandwiches with the filling of choice. Pasta salad is filling and cold. I take my lunch to work and often forget to put it in the fridge so sometimes it's in my bag for 5 hours before I eat it and I've never had any problems. You could get an insulated bag for his lunch if you're worried. Flasks with soup, stew etc?0

Hi Nordicat,
To keep things cold you can put a bottle of frozen water in, works just as well as the ice blocks and will give him chilled water to drink in the afternoon.
There's a recent thread that should give you lots of ideas so I've added your post to it to keep all the suggestions together.

I use those freezer gel packs in OH's packed lunch (just as he generally drinks water from a huge bottle rather than me freezing a small bottle and fitting it in his lunch box) - 89p on eBay - nice and flexible. x0
