Oh cool, thank you all very much for your replies!

That gives me a lot of hope!

We have never lived in a place for longer than 3 years at a time, and I've grown used (over the last 18 years) to living with some wildly varying dodgy stuff (and the odd bit of lovely stuff inbetween) and making the best of it, but hopefully once we settle now this will be it for a long time, and I really want to make it the nicest home I can.

Somethings you can cover up and prettify, but sometimes you just can't make an awful thing look better, so if we end up with anything like that it would be nice to have the chance to improve it just a little bit as this is the closest we will ever be to having our own home.

I hope you enjoy your new home for many years to come. The only tip I would offer is 'good fences make good neighbours'.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
  • hi pip, good luck in your new home:D I live in a housing association high-rise & we are allowed to do pretty much anything, including installing new bathroom white fittings, new internal doors, I've even asked about the storage heaters being removed/replace coz they are museum pieces from the 1980s. Best thing is always to ask first. I don't want to take anything with me when I go from here, probably only in my cardboard eco coffin lol. Depends on the length of time you expect to live there I suppose. HTH. Tc.

I know some people who are moving into council accommodation soon and you will get a full list of regulations, do's and don'ts etc. It is normal for you to agree to them and sign accordingly.

Often they include things like not being allowed to keep livestock in the garden etc etc.
