Credit card purchase hasn't hit my statement

On December 30th I paid for some fuel with my Capital One credit card (about £50) at a garage that had only just been refurbished and reopened (it was a Texaco petrol station previously, and had transformed into a Somerfield mini-supermaket petrol station). But the £50 has never hit my credit card, and it isn't showing as reserved funds.

So at the moment I'm having to leave enough credit available on the card to ensure that if it does come through, I won't go over limit. Not a problem on most cards, but this one only has a £200 limit to start with, so it's a real pain!

Is there any time limit on a payment being charged to me, after which I cannot be hit with it (like cheques have a 6 month limit)?

Yes there is a limit, think it is six months. In the past I have had about three transactions that have never appeared on my statements. I guess they just get lost in th ether somewhere.

I believe the time limit *may* be as much as six years from when you incurred the debt - it is for most general debts / bills. Mortgages have a different set of rules, but that's for a different forum if required.

Acknowledging the debt resets the clock as well, so while after six years it may be statute barred, it doesn't stop them asking as "persuasively" as they can - they'll just have a much harder job taking it via the courts to enforce.

FWIW I had a purchase of £350 that failed to appear on one of my cards a little under two years ago :-)
