  • I moved into my first house 5 months ago for £83K. I put down a deposit of £2K but I then spent around £2K on stuff I never even knew about not to mention doing up the house and living.
Lets get this straight. Say my house is worth £100K, it drops £20K and I complain but I should not complain when I actually pay £200K via a mortgage:rolleyes:
  • you should have at least a 5% deposit, solicitors fees incl searches will be around 500 - 800 , survey about the same and the your mortgage fee could be anything from 0 - 1000 although you can normally add this on to your mortgage . not sure about moving costs as when ive moved ive always roped in some mates and borrowed a van. i think proffessional moving companies are expensive. i dont think you pay stamp duty on 73000 property.

Oh hun, that's Broxtowe. It's not nice at all. When I worked at ntl, we wouldn't send engineers there at night without a police escort because it was so bad. Even in the daytime they had to go in pairs. :o

Why not come up for a few days and have a look around? x

I think some people would class it as Strelley (I imagine the EA would tell you it was), but it is definitely Broxtowe!

NG7 covers a big area. Some of Basford and Lenton is NG7, but you also have Hyson Green, Radford and Forest Fields. The former two are definitely better than the latter three.

Possibly better to look at areas rather than postcodes. How far out of the city centre would you be willing to go? x

Aspley is somewhere I would avoid, but it does have its better parts. Again it is one of those areas where you are in danger of spilling over into nasty areas. You could say that about anywhere, but more so with Aspley.

It is perhaps worth having a drive around in the evening, which is when most of the problems are likely to occur.

If you are on a limited budget, I would recommend having a look at Old Basford. It isn't the best of areas, but it could be a lot worse, and you can get some nice Victorian terraced properties for around £80K.

If you can stretch your budget a bit further, and you are willing to go further away from the city, you could look at Hucknall (I live there, don't let that put you off!). It has two small parts that I would avoid, but otherwise there are some well sized properties available, along with excellent transport links (you can be in the city centre in under twenty mins) and good schools.

If you need any more specific info, feel free to PM me x
