Hi all
My partner will be receiving his half of the profit made from the house he owned with his ex in a few months and was wanting to get a divorce around this time also.
they have no joint debts only the both names on the mortgage, sorry dont know much about divorce proceedures to be honest and a little late for OH to be ringing solicitors this time of night - is there an estimate figure we could go from?
Can anyone give further help / info - would be much appreciated.:o

im not sure of the price, would depend of how fast they can get it done between them, it might be better to let it go to the 2 yr seperation tbh, your first consultation with a solicitor is free, so id think youd get a good idea of the cost then x0

The first consultation with a solicitor is not usually free.
If you did the divorce yourself, you are looking at £300.00 to issue divorce petition and £40.00 to apply for decree absolute. Forms are available free from http://www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk/HMCSCourtFinder/GetForms.do
As there have been assets and if both parties are earning, your partner should atleast consider getting solicitors on board to ensure a consent order is filed with court to prevent any future financial claims.
Solicitors costs vary but with court fees and just for the divorce itself you may well be looking at about £1000.00. Ring around solicitors and ask if they do divorce on fixed fee basis, so you get one price for everything.Proud Mummy to Leila aged 1 whole year:j0 -
My ex got the bill for our divorce yesterday and it was about £450.
We have no assets but do have joint debts - however the solicitors aren't dealing with those. I am in receipt of legal aid so they are pursuing him for the bill.:T*Thanks to all who posts comps * :j0 -
If either party have either works or personal/private pensions, you need to get professional & financial advice, as they have to be taken into account.0

so it'll be about a grand plus solicitors fees or is that including the fees?
They both have pensions through work and only the house joining them no other joint finance.
expensive stuff but i think it'll be best to go through the soliciting route.
cheers everyone.Money's our first priority, it doesn't make sense to me -Simple Plan - CrazyDebt at lightbulb moment 13/12/07 £13820. Debt now 20/02/09 £11316

What they need to ensure that it is a "clean break" settlement (legal term) as alluded to by mookiandco above.0

You can have a 30min free consultation. If you decide to proceed you then pay for further apts/work to be done. Paying privately with nothing being contested and it being straight forward is £900 at the top end. Financial stuff then being sorted is approx an extra £800. I was quoted these figures earlier in the week. I appreciate they may vary slightly depending upon the size of the solicitors and possibly the location.0
