Honeymoon Wedding List Help Needed

My first post so be gentle lol!
I am getting married on 08/08/08 and instead of the tradditional guest list, we are looking to have our honeymoon as our guest list instead.
I have spent hours looking into do thing on the internet and have really confused myself and don't know where to go! There are a number of sites set up but they charge an very high % of money received as a gift and have set up charged. Connfetti did do a charge card service (Found today on Net) where people could place money on it for `Gifts' set up on the website - but when I went to apply....it said they no longer do this due to customer feedback!! Shame as this looked ideal and was very cheap to set up etc.
Does anyone know of anything simlar or can recommend a good site to visit? We like the idea of people buying `gifts' suchs as meal, miles, day trips etc.
I note a number of travel agents can operate simlar things as part of the service, but unfortunately ours is unable to do so once the honeymoon has been paid for....which we will be doing before invites are even sent.
Guidance and advice appreciated and thank you to you all!
PS - Good luck to all those who also have their wedding plans underway!!

We went into our local Thomson, they gave us a ref number and we are quoting this on our invites (see the thread i just posted) pople then just go into a local branch, quote this ref and pay as much as they want onto it, once all the money is in we go pick our destination. However we are getting married in May and going away in October so not sure if this would work if you wanted to go straight after the wedding

You could just ask for cash towards the honeymoon and give a list of things that they may buy for your honeymoon for suggested amounts
e.g. £40 relaxing spa massage for bride, £100 romantic candlelit meal for 2, £50 lingerie.....endless list
Seems a better way than just asking for cash, this way they feel they have bought you something. We're thinking of doing something like this for the honeymoon or for a new kitchen e.g. kitchen door £20 etc etc....0 -
http://www.travelcounsellors.co.uk/Honeymoon/Bridal_Registry we may be using these, they come highly recommended and they only cost £10 to set up0

Hi, we've just done what you wish to do. We registered on www.whattogive.com (for free) and made up a list of what we wish to do and costings. You can even split up expensive items, for example flights, so that people contribute towards that item rather than pay the full thing. We put down meals and little trips - I added weblinks to things we know we want to do too. The website and login information was sent with the wedding invitations. I can give you the wording if you wish - let me know.
People can't pay through the website - they just 'promise' the item. We then just asked them to bring their gifts at the bridal presentation (I'm getting married back home and this is what we do) or at the reception.
Hope this helps0 -
I think trailfinders do a gift list, and they're a great travel agents as well. If you're still looking, try posting on hitched.co.uk, it's a great site and lots of people on there have done a similar thing to you, so I'm sure would be able to help.
too many comps..not enough time!0 -
we are going with travel counsellers for our honeymoon. Some friends of our used them and said how great they were.
We did go to either thompson or thomas cook and they do the honeymoon account offer but as most holidays have to paid about 12 weeks before you go when people pay the money into the account you only get travel vouchers back.
With travel counsellers you get the money back as a cheque.
We are going to pay for the honeymoon on a 0% cc and then pay that off with the cheque we get back.JeremyMarried 9th May 20090 -
Was put in a note with the inviations saying that as we have pretty much everything we need, we only have a very small gift list (I used http://www.thegiftlistcompany.com/ ) which had a few house bits that we did need (new towels and whatnot) but that we would be grateful for any contributions towards our honeymoon fund, then people just sent us cheques or gave us euros.
I did looks at all those gift list sites where people can give you money, but I agree, the charges are phenominal.
We did have to open up a joint account in order to pay some of the cheques in as we didn't have one before though!
Good luck!

Hi there
We put a note in with our invitations saying that we already lived together so had everything we needed BUT if they wanted to give us something we would love some dollars to spend whilst we were there. It was all anonymous & we asked if they could just put it in an envelope & put it in the box (which we put by the DJ as he was our friend).
I bought a card box from ebay & people put them & it worked brilliantly & it was commented on what a great idea it was a people would struggle with what to buy us.
It worked really well for us too as we got to really special things on honeymoon that we wouldn't have been able to without the generousity of our family & friends.
Good luck x2010 - nothing as we emigrated to Australia!!! :j0 -
THANKS TO ALL FOR THEIR REPLIES - MUCH APPRECIATED!!. Having done some additional reviewed, I have come across qhat appears quite a good site - www.blisslist.co.uk which only charge 1.5% plus VAT - free to set up and they supply cards to put in invites!!! Only thing is, can't find much feedback about them and was wondering if anyone had any details about them or relevant feedback. This may be of use to anyone else looking for similar site as some of the others are charging a fortune (Circa 9%!!)0

i got this from a work colleague: for his daughters wedding - poem within the invitation:
If you were thinking of giving a gift to help us on our way
A gift of cash towards our house would really make our day
Now that we have saved you all of that fuss
We hope you will come, and celebrate with us.Thank youLiz x0
