Slieve Donard spa vouchers

Just wondering if any of you have had this experience and to warn you if you haven't. My mum bought both myself and my sister £50 vouchers as Christmas presents for the Spa at the Slieve Donard Hotel. (We had asked for these, when she was going to get them from another place)
When we tried to book a massage and a facial, they said that we could only have a 2 hour treatment each, costing a further £80 minimum each!
We were prepared to put a bit more (a massage is £65)towards our treatments, but they said it had been explained to my mum that we would have to put more to the voucher. My mum was not told how much, or she would never have got them as a gift! I only want a massage and my sister a facial, but we can't have these. If we had booked and paid in cash, we could have had what we wanted, and if we don't go, our mum has paid £100 for nothing. They won't refund either. I have emailed and we have phoned, but they say it's their policy. Has anyone else experienced this? We should be looking forward to being relaxed, but we are now stressed!

That sounds really off - is it a spa voucher or a money off certain treatments voucher itms?Norn Iron Club member 273:beer:0

No, it's a voucher for their spa. No treatment specified, just a £50 voucher.0

is their spa an eliasium (or however u spell it)? if so its a chain so find the contact details of their head office and complain. That doesnt sound right, they cant sell a voucher and then just say "oh but really its only worth £20 off an £80 treatment" or whatever. Failing that try contacting the head of hasting hotels and tell him that your not happy. Its a family owned business so you might get far by contacting them direct.
Good luck x0 -
Hi,
(wrote a reply and it didn't post, sorry if it double posts)
My friend had an unpleasant stay at the slieve Donard a few months back. She wrote directly to Billy (?) Hasting, the owner and she was satisified with the outcome.
I would write to him, send it recorded delivery and request a response within a certain time frame.

Good luck to you writing to the main man. I wrote to him after, I kid you not the worst meal in a hotel that I have EVER had and I am really not that fussy.
The food was awful, in fact they gave me son who was 6 at the time a fish that had NONE of the bones removed. I went to get the waitress to complain and the staff were taking the !!!! out of another customer who had complained, this put me off complaining there and then, but hoped that I would get some assistance from the head man, but I didn't.
The main man passed the letter onto the hotel in question, who wrote to me saying that they were aware that the food was not to its usual standard as they currently had no chef but if I wanted to return to the hotel for a meal and let them know who I was they would take care of me. I would never do this in regards a food complaint and give someone the chance to gob in my food. They didn't even offer us a refund.
Good luck with your complaint, let us know how you get on.Jellynose0 -
We went to the Slieve Donard for my MIL's 80th. Had an overnight stay for all the family. One of our children was 16 at the time and was charged the full adult price for the room and meals but when it came to the leisure facilities they classed him as a child and he was not allowed to use the facilities after 6 pm as it was for adults only then.
Talk about having your cake and eating it!!!
Also because so many were booked for that weekend they decided (without telling anyone) that they would have a carvery instead of an a la carte menu. Since my MIL and a couple more elderly relatives are on zimmers you can imagine how difficult that was. The staff were a pretty supercilious bunch as well. I suppose we should have complained but we didn't think we'd get anywhere having noted the staff's attitude.Member #7 SKI-ers Club

Had message left on home phone today from spa manager to ring her. Unfortunately, can't get her until Monday now. Will let you know how it goes. I will see what happens before I take it further. Thanks to all.0
