Much appreciated. I think for the minute I will just sit tight for a while and see if they let me know which debt they are chasing first before I do anything. Is this the wrong thing to do?
Not really.
The longer it goes the better chance you have that the Credit card will be "Statute Barred" as well. It will be at some point this year.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Not a clue it may even have been the end of 2001 but I cant be certain of the dates - so much has happened since then - I know it was definately before June 2002 but as I say it may have been 2001.
The overdraft from 2001 is not on my credit report though but the cc is0 -
Just checked and the default date for the cc is august 02 - does the 6 yrs start from then or from the last written acknowledgement of debt which was defiantely before then.0

It could be.
But then again it is quite common for debts like these to appear at 5 and a bit years. In other words a last gasp attempt to recover it before it goes over the 6 years.
I've known MH to pursue debts just before they are time barred; but also after where they obviously hope you don't know about the Limitation Act.
Makes it a little tricky to say what to do if you can't pin down a date.
