We have had green and black bin collected every other week for about year now with two different councils.

I have never had any problems. What I do find is people are lazy. Where I use to live singles would complain that they had standard size wheelie bin full and over flowing. And claim they are recycling everything they can

Ummmmmm are they. As we are household of two people and fill the bin about 3/4 full. But that is due to having moved a few months ago and we are still clearing out things. Most likely due to the fact that use ready meals thus have loads more rubbish. Before we moved it was about 1 or 2 carrier bags a week. But we recycle everthing we can.

It is bin day today and as I look out I can see bins over flowing. They have plastic bottles in them. Yes our recycling box does not take them but we live about 5 mins walk from recycling centre that do. How lazy is that. Do there legs not work or something.

Why is when it takes a bit of effort people just don't bother.

I don't create much food waste so that helps.

Do you have freezer. Could you not freeze the food waste and put it in the bin on the day of collection.

I am trying to turn a yard into a garden (previous owner slabbed over the whole thing  ).

Thanks for the reminder about the council - I knew but had forgotton. Now all I have to do is remember is where I put the leaflet ;)

This done via a company called Blackwall. I put an order in on the 3rd of june and I am still waiting for my composters.

I have taken a choice of a refund and the good delivered with in 14 days.

So I am now kinda of put off using them. Not sure who's fault it was but they seemed to be blaming there carrier.

We have had this system in since February this year, in the past three months are bins have been emptied fully and on time once.

Its bin day today and our bin was out on time and in the correct place. Tomorrow I know I will be phoning to ask for it to be collected, our council really do not seem to be able to collect the bins on time.

Calleyw - FYI Blackwell only claimed that delivery would be within 28 days for me and arrived sooner than this.

Back to the main topic though; you could try getting a Green Cone http://www.greencone.com/ this is like a composter only for food waste. That way you wouldn't have any food waste in your bin and so then you wouldn't have a smelly bin. It would also mean extra nutrients for your garden.

My local council subsidises them, check with yours to see if they do too.

I have had a green cone for about a year now, and it is excellent. Completely self contained, no smell, and it means my bins don't smell anymore!!!

    Ascot,

Would you like to explain the point of your above comment. You obviously did not read my post very well.

I had a letter dated the 3rd of june to say 14 days delivery time. After that 14 working days I phoned they told me another 14 days. After another 14 working days it still had not arrived. Which is well over 28 days. They offered me a two choices express delivery with 2 days or a refund and delivery with in 14 days.

They arrived in 2. Even so going from the 3rd of june to the 19th of july is well over 14 days and is still well over 28 days.

Still confused as what it has to with my post. I was quoted 14 days and you 28 days.

South Gloucestershire council started taking the black wheelie bins once every 2 weeeks last year and people were in uproar. A colleague of mine who just had a baby (and the nappies being disposed of) eventually got a 2nd bin after more hounding of the council, but they have to pay to hire it!

You'll also need to hide your bin because some sod will try and put their rubbish in it!

Hahaha, its chaos around here! I used to leave my bins at the side of the house... till someone stole my green one  so I called for another one and painted my house no on it.

Now Ive come home to find someone has piled some extra bags on my neighbours bin.
He left his bin out because they didnt pick it up. This was due to ... Health & Safety ?!!! It was only slightly open, but they wouldnt budge, put a big red sticker on it. Now someone's taking the Michael and added 2 more bags! He was fuming!

Ive moved my bins to the garden, not taking any chances...

:rotfl: Sorry I shouldnt really laugh, 'cos if it happened to me I'd be well annoyed. Some people just don't give a toss!

In South glos if the bins are open a tiny bit, they won't take it. The binmen also go through the garden waste bin to make sure no food waste is in there, if there is it doesnt get emptied. One resident was so !!!!!! off he towed his wheelie bin and emptied it in the car park at one of the council offices.

So if any bags get left on the street it's street care's problem as its litter. Phone the council up, say rubbish has been dumped and they come and take it away. It's crazy.

I was in the south glos area until march this year. And households of a single person with a normal size wheelie bins where moaning they could not get two weeks worth of rubbish in. What they are doing as I am household of two and we filled the bin about one third to half full and still do as we have fortnightly collection.

Never had anyone putting rubbish in my bin. Not that it would have made much difference as we use to chuck out so little. But what they use to do was to run off up the road with the bin and then chuck it in the hedge
