I
had a problem with this company
after finding in HUKD about the match price offer I quoted on their web site and liked the price given. You have to tell them the renewal price, if they can't beat it, they'll give it for free.
I put my renewal car insurance and wasn't impress as only £10 below is not much, However I changed the car details to my second car and surprise it was an excellent quote.
I did not noticed I didn't change the renewal price to Zero.
I paid full, and with the policy a letter stating I need to send the proof of renewal as terms of the quote.
There is nothing on the quote letter about price is based on renewal price, or it will be invalid if not supplied or if not supplied my premium will increase in 14 days.
To avoid problems I just decided to cancel. Now they have deducted £60 off my premium paid for cancellation fees (I did cancelled in the 14 days), plus legal cover not refundable and some more money because of the days I used it.

I am really !!!! off and I can't believed Companies are profiting for people like this. They confirmed over the phone before I decided to cancel that only a fee of £15 will be reduced which I accepted as normal.
I am just writing this to advice people to be advice of this Company (Equity Brokers) or any other Car insurance that will charge you exuberant fees for any changes made to your policy, etc.
If someone knows If I have some grounds to request some of this money to e refunded, please let me know, I am complaining to A&L too.

I'm in the same boat except further down the rapids without a paddle. I didn't realise the quote was based on the renewal price. The quote asks for your renewal price without all the added extras like breakdown cover etc. I got a quote from my previous insurer without all this added on and it was £350.
However I didn't get it put in writing. On top of this I changed address at the same time as moving insurer, since I moved house within a week of the policy needing updating.
After a couple of weeks i received demands to send proof of my NCB. I rung my old insurer who would only send it to my previous address, which is luckilly my parents address. My parents forwarded it to Equity redstar. They sent me another letter telling me my policy was being cancelled on the 22nd Dec - Monday. I rang them up and they said you've not provided proof of your renewal quote. I had no idea that this was also requested at this point. It is admitidley there on the pack of the welcome letter they sent out.
I rang them up and explained that I never had that quote on paper, they said they'd have to charge me an additional £380 unless I could send it through. I rang up my previous insurer thinking that I could just get an updated quote, which my current insurer more than was happy enough to do. However when I rang equity red star back they said no this wasn't good enough it would have to be the renewal quote. I also relised at this point that the address change maybe a further issue so informed them of this, and they told me as that meant it's not like for like cover it could cause the policy to be cancelled. (Despite the fact they've had my new address on the original form all along)
At one point it was suggested that they talk to Morethan, so I rang morethan whom and told them Equity Redstar would ring them. Equity Red Star tried to ring them, only to be told they wouldn't release the information. So they've demanded I fax through the original renewal quote which was for £470, i explained that this had all the extra's on, but they said that they'd have to work it out from there.
I've now tried faxing this through to them on the fax number at the top of the letter requesting it, only to be told that's the wrong office and it may take a couple of days to go through.
Attempts to get back through to them to get the real fax number have thus far failed. I've now less than two days before my car insurance becomes enulled. No mention has been made of what will happen to the £380 I've already paid. I realise I may have made some mistakes here, but this is getting very stressful, and I've tried very hard to do what they've asked!
I've no idea what my rights are here. I feel like I'm about to loose both the insurance and the money I've paid.
