Being on the Electoral Roll

Hi All,

I'm familiar with the Electoral Roll, how to get on it, and it's benefit to my credit rating.

I currently live with my OH, who owns her own house. We are looking to buy a house together, but I don't have great credit, although I believe this can be greatly increased by getting on the electoral register.

If I was to register at my OH's address, would this have any adverse affect on her credit rating? Would I then be classed as financially linked to her?

Other than savings, we don't have any financial links, nor are we married. I only have one outstanding debt that I'm currently disputing through CCA with the lovely Lowell DCA (40days is nearly up!)

And I know, I know, I know, I know that "Credit Scores mean nothing", but could anyone give me an indication of the kind of increase being on the Electoral Roll makes to your "Credit Score" (I still like to use this method as an indication of my credit status)

Thanks in advance, yorkie1980

  • I think that it does create a link between you two, and this will show on your credit report......

  • Ok thanks Andy.
That's a little bit worrying if you're a landlord then, or you rent out rooms?

    andy,

The rules have changed now and you can no longer see the financial affairs of everyone living at the same address, and nor can the lenders.

Unless you create a 'financial association' by having a joint mortgage, loan or current account then there should be no impact on your partners rating.

Although you are using your 'credit rating' as a benchmark, you are really at the mercy of the financial institution. Some will see electoral roll as a hyguine factor, others will see it as an indication that you have nothing to hide. Others will ignore it completely and focus more on your past payment history.

    Good luck

    That's a really useful, well-written reply.
