If you really feel that they haven't provided an explanation even though you have asked for one, then ask in writing addressed to the Senior Partner of the Firm for details of the firm's internal complaints procedure and then submit a written complaint asking for their proposals as to it resolution.
They will then have to decide whether to provide a more detailed and reasoned explanation of why they are entitled to the £60. If they can't do that they are not dealing with your complaint, and you then take it to the Legal Complaints Board.
More likely they will suggest a resolution which may well involve writing off the whole amount or least only asking for half of it. It really isn't going to be worth a firm's while spending a lot of energy explaining themselves to the LCB so they will probably drop the request for the money.RICHARD WEBSTER
As a retired conveyancing solicitor I believe the information given in the post to be useful assuming any properties concerned are in England/Wales but I accept no liability for it.0 -
Thanks for that Richard. Time to try to see who the Senior Partner will be I think and write them a nice polite letter. Much appreciated.0

Well, after writing a letter to a partner isn't it surprising how quickly things can happen.
My bill got recalculated again, to me owing the solicitors the huge sum of £1.60. Slightly different to the other amounts of £50, £80 and £60. This £1.60 has now also been written off and an apology on it's way to me!
I only asked for an apology, I did not ask for compensation (I only ever ask for signed apologies, I feel good when I get themand yes, I'm a stubborn @rsehole). But they did also say they were going to refund £100 of my fees + vat... So a cheque of £117.50 in the post on the way to me as well.
Thanks for peoples help and advice in this. And juding by the PMs I got, wow, how many solicitors cannot add up! Good luck to all of you to.0 -
Glad to hear you got it sorted out!...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

Good news carpetbelly. Its a shame they wrote off the £1.60, I would have insisted it be paid off, at 1p per week, with a receipt from them to say I had paid it.0

Solicitors are awful with calculators. This is such a common event and one that appears on the board frequently.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0

They're not all bad when I purchased a property back in 2006. Three weeks after completion out of the blue I recieved a cheque for two hundred odd quid as I had paid twice for the land registry fees, I wouldn't have been any the wiser.0
