Wales has abolished SATS at year 2 and 6. The schools now tend to do English SATS tests but are marked by neighbouring schools teachers. They have found that even though they no longer prepare the kids for SATS or teach towards them the results are better. On average almost 40% of each class is achieving the top score (3 at KS1 & 5 & KS2). They don't even tell the children or the parents if and when they are doing the tests so there is no pressure. You only know they have done them when the school reports come out with the results.

what kind of class is she in? it's usually year 6 they take them but i know a girl in a small school where years 5 and 6 are in the same class, the brighter year 5 children are taking their SATS a year early, i don't know if that means she'll taker them again in year 6, it all seems a bit odd to me - i don't see the point of taking SATS early, they're not like GCSE's.flea72 wrote:what year do they take their sats in, as ive just had my daughters results come back, but shes in year 5 (age 9-10), and most posts here refer to year 6 sats
has she taken them a year early?
otherwise, maybe they are the optional end of year tests. our school uses optional SATS tests at the end of every year, to see how the children are progressing. they don't usually give out the results though. i was told how my spud did at the end of year 3, but that was by the SENCo and she only told me because my son has/had special needs and we were chatting about helping him to use scissors, and she just said 'by the way here are his SATS results' during the conversation. some schools might give out test results every year though, when i was a kid my school would put the exam results on our report cards.52% tight0 -
flea72: Sorry if this is a silly question, but did your daughter take SATs or QCA exams? My son's school takes QCAs in Year 5, I'm not sure if this is nationwide.
AFAIK all the SATS results have been published, they're sent to the school as a printout which the school then passes on to the parents. I suppose each school is different, we were given our results in the end of year report just before Parents' Evening. I think the best idea is to phone the school and ask when the results will be passed on.
I got Filigree Junior's results early - privilege of being friends with the staff
He got 4/5/5 and as you can see I take every opportunity to be smug about it

think im gonna have to contact the school and ask
all we got was a piece of paper titled NCAR (whatever that is) which states, 'that the average child attains a score of between 95-105 and the expected level of attainment for a Y5 student should be 4C'
then the sheet is split into Reading, Writing, Maths and then a score and level is given
i just assumed these were her SATS results, as i know she had SATS back in May0 -
My son got his year 2 results on Friday, all 3's - follows his mom!0

My little one got her year 2 SATS on the 8th July, she got all 3's - she doesn't follow her mum, thank goodness.0

lol!
in yr 2 my spud was given the choice of sitting the level 3's or not. everyone with a 2A in the first exam could sit the level 3 but the rest of the children were going swimming - guess which option he chose :rotfl:52% tight0 -
I marked the Key Stage 2 (11 year olds) this year, and they had to be with schools by the 5th of July.'My father told me to go for it.
So I went for it. But it had gone.'0 -
There seems to be a lot of misunderstanding here! The SATs were renamed Statutory Tests, or National Tests a few years ago. Key Stage 1 tests are taken in Year 2 (age 7 generally). They are marked by the school staff, so publishing of results to parents varies, but has to be by the end of the summer term. Children in other year groups may take QCA optional tests, and parents may or may not be given the results - it is up to the school. Children in year 6 (generally aged 11) take tests which are marked externally, and as Lesley said, these were back with schools in the week commencing 5th July. Younger children may only take the tests early if they are likely to achieve level 4 and will be moving on to the KS3 programmes of study in the following academic year. Pupils cannot take the end of KS2 tests twice, so in reality very few children are entered early as most state primary schools are not geared up to teach KS3 work.
Hope this helps clarify things
