Does buildings Insurance cover me if I flood my flat?

Hi,
I live in a leasehold block. The buildings insurance is included in the service charge.
I don't have anything worth stealing and burglaries are very rare anyway.
I have contents insurance just because i was worried that I'd accidentally flood the flat below and wanted to be covered for this.
My friends says that buildings insurance covers all these sorts of mishaps and that I don't need to pay £130 a year for contents insurance I don't really need.
Anyone know if he is correct??
thanks

When you say you don't need contents insurance because burglaries are rare you are forgetting all the other things you are covered for (fire, explosion, loss of keys etc)0

Buildings insurance covers property owners liability - if a slate fell on someones head for instance or they tripped on the communal staircase.
Contents insurance covers "occupiers" liability. This would be negligent acts you did as a tenant, for instance letting your bath overflow and flood the flat below. So yes, you do need contents cover really.0 -
I think you do need contents cover but you may not need a huge limit.
Go for a suitable amount and it shouldn't be too expensive.
Also don't forget to try quidco.
You could get £100 or so cashback.0 -
thanks!
You are right - my liability for letting the bath over-flow etc.
So I need contents insurance afterall.
I have the minimum amount insured £5,000 but this is still about £100 so I'll look at quidco when I next renew0 -
I'm not far from Fulham, and I've just paid £60 for a contents policy with £100,000 worth of cover (waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much but it's their minimum) and £90 cashback from Quidco. So I'm £30 up

Insurance is with AIG.
